The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise has been a valuable and profitable property for close to forty years. However, people forget that it started as and continues to be a comic book.

Throughout the years, TMNT has remained an entertaining comic by consistently changing its story. The main elements remain the same, but their adventures differ. According to comicbook.com, the four brothers are in for another revision. All-star writer Jason Aaron (Thor, Wolverine, and currently writing Action Comics) will relaunch the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for IDW Publishing.

Comicbook.com had the exclusive on this story. In the article, Jason Aaron was excited to take over as the Ninja Turtles' future writer. He said, "Launching a new TMNT comic series in the midst of the characters' 40th anniversary is clearly one of those dream jobs of all comic book dream jobs,". Since he grew up watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon and reading the comics, it makes sense that he'd be overjoyed to be their next creator. Especially during an iconic landmark.

IDW Publishing Co-Publisher Mark Doyle added that Jason Aaron, "just gets the Turtles." This is something that any TMNT fan wants to hear. It would be a shame if a creator took over this franchise during their 40th anniversary and didn’t understand the assignment. Nevertheless, even if Jason Aaron didn't, he's proven to be one of the greatest comic book writers ever.

For now, there isn’t much news. The artist hasn’t even been revealed yet (though the article said that should be coming soon). Hopefully, it’s Mike Doedato Jr. His dark and shadowy art would fit perfectly with the Ninja Turtles and Aaron’s writing. The two worked together during the Marvel Comics' crossover Original Sin. Maybe a reconnection is in their future.

So far, there are only a few things for certain. First, the series will have a ten-page one-shot in June titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Alpha No. 1. Second, TMNT's co-creator Kevin Eastman will have input on the series. Lastly, the official title will be released this July. All of this leads to a very promising series coming this summer. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out more about the series as the news is released.
