Jeffrey Wright has not received the script for The Batman - Part II
Following awards season, the four-time SAG nominee, Emmy, Golden Globe, Tony Award winner, and now Oscar nominee spoke with Variety regarding his Academy Award nomination for American Fiction. Jeffrey Wright gave very few details regarding The Batman – Part II.
The DC Elseworlds project that is gradually expanding the world of The Bat Verse with a Penguin series set to drop on Max during the fall of this year and the 2026 sequel to The Batman set to roll cameras next year in April 2025 starting in Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden in England in Watford, Hertfordshire, UK.
Speaking on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, Wright revealed he has not received the script for The Batman – Part II in a coy and playful way saying, “Here’s the beginning, middle, and end laid out for you." Wright then added:
"“I have not read the script, I have not received the script. I’m waiting patiently. But I’ll tell you what? As soon as I get it, I’ll send a copy right over to you. On the off chance that Matt Reeves hears this, the hairs on the back of his neck are going to stand up.”"
The No Time to Die actor, who portrays Jim Gordon in the original 2022 film, also reiterated how much on “lockdown” the script is. There will likely be some casting announcements in the coming months despite the delays. Reeves is clearly taking his time in shaping his world and story.
A world that includes the GCPD show which has long since been in development since before even the first film was released.
In whatever iteration The Batman – Part II will end up in; Mattson Tomlin will be the co-writer on the film’s script alongside Reeves. It has recently been revealed that it will be released on Oct. 2, 2026. The film was initially announced back in April 2022 at CinemaCon and co-CEOs and co-chairmen of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, revealed the official title and previous release date.
