On March 20, during the Game Developers Conference (GDC '24), Skydance New Media and Marvel Games unveiled that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is the official name of their highly anticipated Black Panther and Captain America WWII game. The studio also unveiled a new trailer showcasing the graphical achievement of Unreal Engine 5.

The latest Marvel adventure will be a four-player co-op, and the experience is being described as a "narrative-driven action-adventure game."

Leading the charge on Marvel’s latest gaming production is Amy Hennig, a former writer and director at Naughty Dog who oversaw the production of the first three Uncharted titles and was one of the creators of the hit Playstation series. Marc Bernardin is the main writer behind the story of the title.

Last year, at the D23 Disney Expo, Henning gave further insight into the decision to helm this project.

"Marvel has been an incredible partner throughout the creative process as we develop an original story and build an exciting new team of characters. We hope fans are intrigued by this sneak peek, and we’re excited to share more down the road."

Marvel also released a synopsis for the latest game which reads: In the chaos of war, worlds collide. Captain America and Azzuri, the Black Panther of the 1940s, must overcome their differences and form an uneasy alliance to confront their common enemy. Fighting alongside Gabriel Jones of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Paris, they must join forces to stop a sinister plot that threatens to turn the havoc of WWII into the ultimate rise of Hydra.

In addition, the voice cast was unveiled, showing that Khary Payton would portray Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather, and the WWII-era Black Panther. In contrast, Drew Moerlein portrays Steve Rogers, aka Captain America.

Rounding out the ensemble is Megalyn Echikunwoke as Nanali, a Wakandan spy embedded in Occupied Pari. Marquee Richardson takes on the role of Gabriel Jones, a U.S. soldier and member of the Howling Commandos. Lyne Renée plays Julie, a key ally in the French Resistance. Joel Johnstone rounds out the cast as Howard Stark, father of Tony Stark, a.k.a. the Invincible Iron Man.

Grammy Award-winning composer Stephen Barton is also part of the project. He is known for notable works such as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Star Trek Picard, Apex Legends, Titanfall, and 12 Monkeys. Barton will provide the score for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will be released in 2025. The console list has not yet been revealed.
