Marvel reportedly bringing back five huge stars in Avengers: Secret Wars

It sounds like fans should expect to see some familiar faces in the concluding chapter of Marvel's Multiverse Saga.

Of all the films on Marvel's upcoming slate of movies, Avengers: Secret Wars might just be the most eagerly-anticipated. Not only is it based on one of the most iconic Marvel Comics storylines of all time, it's also set to bring about the end of the franchise's Multiverse Saga, acting as this chapter's Avengers: Endgame, if you will.

With that in mind, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will likely provide an incredible piece of entertainment, full of surprises and memorable moments that could very well send the Multiverse Saga out on a note even higher than the Infinity Saga's legendary finale. Oh yes, there has already been speculation about who could make their presence felt in the film, and whether or not Marvel Studios will bring back some more classic Marvel characters (both from the MCU and film series that pre-date it).

Well, a new report suggests that we could very well see just that, as a number of stars are now rumored to appear.

Legendary Marvel actors rumored to return in Avengers: Secret Wars

According to Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello, Scarlett Johansson, Tobey Maguire, Chris Evans, Wesley Snipes, and Nicolas Cage have all agreed to return for Avengers: Secret Wars. They never went into detail about what kind of role these actors could play or if they would be cameo appearances, but this does appear to back-up the notion that the film is going to be full of Marvel returnees.

As with all Marvel rumors, it's important that fans take this one with a grain of salt until confirmed (which, knowing Marvel it wouldn't be until the project is released), but the prospect of all of these returns is extremely exciting.

Johansson portrayed Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow, in the MCU franchise between 2010 and 2021. The character was killed off in Avengers: Endgame when she sacrificed herself to stop her best friend Clint Barton from doing the same, but fans have been speculating that she could return at some point in the Multiverse Saga, and with Johansson currently working on a Marvel TV series for the studio, it's possible that a cameo return could be on the table for the Multiverse Saga's grand finale.

Evans is also a veteran of the franchise, having played Captain America since 2011. He also retired the character of Steve Rogers in Endgame, but he did return to make a cameo appearance as a different character in Deadpool and Wolverine, playing Johnny Storm, a.k.a. the Human Torch, which he had previously played in two Fantastic Four movies between 2005 and 2007. If he appears in Avengers: Secret Wars, it would likely be in the role of Captain America given how integral he was to the franchise.

Speaking of Deadpool and Wolverine, Wesley Snipes made his MCU debut as Blade in that film, but he of course brought the character to the silver screen through the original Blade Trilogy between 1998 and 2004. Now that he's part of the MCU franchise, and has appeared in one of the Multiverse Saga's most memorable cameos, it wouldn't be too surprising if he returned in a major cameo-filled scene. He is the original Marvel movie star, so he should be there.

Tobey Maguire brought his legendary Spider-Man to the MCU franchise when he and Andrew Garfield's Spidey both appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home to aid Tom Holland's webslinger. That was one of the most important moments of the Multiverse Saga, as it really showed us what it was capable of, so it would also make sense if Maguire had an appearance in the endgame of it all. Fans have been speculating that he would be back at some point, and given how revolutionary the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies he starred in are, it would again make sense for him to appear in this one.

The wild card here would be Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider. The only one of these five not to appear in the MCU thus far (although he was reportedly going to appear in Deadpool and Wolverine but it never worked out), Cage portrayed the character in the 2007 Ghost Rider film and its 2011 sequel Spirit of Vengeance. As the Multiverse Saga is all about paying tribute to previous interpretations of Marvel characters, an appearance from him would certainly be warranted (and memorable; very, very memorable!).

Needless to say expectations are high for both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, so the idea of any of these actors and characters appearing in the movies are just too darn exciting. With all of that (and a potential return for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, too), we could be looking at some of the MCU's greatest accomplishments in these two movies. And we can't wait to see it all come to life!
