10 most disliked MCU villains, ranked
6. Gorr The God Butcher
You want to talk about wasted potential? Look no further than Gorr The God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder. A character who benefitted from an incredible backstory and perfect casting in Christian Bale, Gorr should have found himself on a list of the best Marvel Cinematic Universe villains, but this film dropped the ball so hard that fans were left feeling cold on the character... even after Bale gave it his everything.
There are moments of brilliance from Gorr, moments allude to how great the character could have been. Those moments are all Bale, who really highlights how terrifying the character of Gorr the God Butcher could be. But those moments are completely undermined by the movie's ridiculously over-the-top tone (remember the screaming goats?), its inability to balance both its serious storylines with its unnecessarily silly ones, and the fact that Gorr spent a lot of the movie retreating into the shadows.
Gorr was a good villain lost in an underwhelming movie and that will always be one of the MCU's biggest missed opportunities. Bale was a scene-stealer here, but that didn't change the fact that fans came away from Thor: Love and Thunder wanting more from the character (and not in the good kind of way).
