Marvel is actually doing the one thing nobody expected them to, reports say

The Multiverse Saga just got a heck of a lot more exciting as it sounds like Marvel could give MCU fans the one thing they never thought they would see.

It's a wild time to be a Marvel fan, it really is. The Multiverse Saga sure has had its ups and downs, but it has also provided us with opportunity after opportunity to see some of the heroes we grew up watching on our screens once again. From Patrick Stewart's return as Professor Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to the comebacks of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's webslingers in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it has been the gift that has kept on giving.

Deadpool and Wolverine took that to the next level when Hugh Jackman returned as Logan. The film also featured a number of nods and references to Fox's X-Men movie series, which honestly feels like something that we would have never expected to happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe just a few years ago.

But it sounds like that has simply opened the door for an even more jaw-dropping event to take place.

Marvel reportedly planning an Avengers vs. X-Men showdown

Marvel insider Alex Perez has revealed that Marvel wants The Avengers and the X-Men to face off with each other before the end of the Multiverse Saga. The scooper conducted a Q&A with fans for the month of August via The Cosmic Circus and answered a question from a fan wondering about the possibility of a showdown between Wolverine and The Hulk, adding that the studio really wants the two comic book foes to "have their fight scene moment".

This is obviously a huge deal, as fans have been longing to see both of those things in the MCU at some point or another; the thought of both of them happening, much less in potentially the same movie, that's extremely exciting.

This isn't the first time that either one of these ideas have come up, as both have been rumored amid all the buzz for Deadpool and Wolverine. Perez had also alluded to the possibility of an Avengers/X-Men battle in a recent post, telling a fan on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that everything they write "has a purpose".

What is interesting is the fact that this new report states that Marvel wants the showdowns to happen before the Multiverse Saga concludes. Given that Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will bring about the end of the Multiverse Saga, it would need to happen in one of those projects. The question is: Would that even be feasible when only Wolverine is now a full-time part of the franchise?

The beauty of the Multiverse Saga is that an alternate version of the mutants could make their presence felt in the franchise, but that would likely go down like the Scarlet Witch's battle with the Illuminati in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (meaning that the team would play a minor role and likely be defeated by The Avengers since they aren't main characters). Would that be disappointing? Yes, but it would still allow one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments to come to life on the big screen. And that alone would probably make it worth it.

*** This next paragraph features SPOILERS from Deadpool and Wolverine ***

If it does happen, it wouldn't be the first time that Wolverine and Hulk battle on the big screen. Deadpool and Wolverine featured a brief nod to their showdown as one of the many Logans that Wade Wilson encountered was in the midst of a battle with the Hulk. We didn't actually see them fight, as that Hulk threw Deadpool out of that particular timeline, but it would be pretty cool if that was merely setting up an actual on-screen showdown between the pair.

The Incredible Hulk and Wolverine have a long history in the comics and have gone face-to-face on multiple occasions, so it's not hard to understand why fans want to see them square off in the MCU. But to see them do that, while surrounded by a battle between the Avengers and the X-Men? Now that would be truly an unforgettable moment.

The Multiverse Saga holds the potential of giving us some of the MCU's biggest moments, and now that a battle between the Avengers and the X-Men could be one of them, that potential just increased tenfold. We'll have to wait and see if Marvel actually make it happen, but it goes without saying that the fans would love to see it!
