It's official: A beloved aspect of the MCU's Multiverse Saga will live on even with Marvel Studios' less-is-more approach.

Marvel Studios is evolving as the years go by, with the Multiverse Saga throwing the Marvel Cinematic Universe into a brand new era. It's opened it up to a heap of new and exciting possibilities, but it has also resulted in it moving away from certain elements that didn't pay off when it started taking risks.

Yes. there are rumors of an MCU overhaul as Disney CEO and the studio reportedly attempt to course correct after a number of recent misfires. And that unfortunately means that certain projects are at risk of cancellation (with rumors already suggesting that the likes of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law season 2 and a planned Monica Rambeau project were scrapped), with plans to focus on more sure-fire hits such as Deadpool and Wolverine.

There were also reports that another new element of the Multiverse Saga would be shelved, but it appears that this is not true after all.

Kevin Feige confirms that a new Marvel Special is happening

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed that we haven't seen the last of the Marvel Special Presentations. In a new interview with Collider ahead of both the release of Deadpool and Wolverine and San Diego Comic-Con, he revealed that there is currently one in active development. Even better, he said that there are more on the way.

"There will be more. You just have to wait."

This debunks all of the rumors that Marvel was moving away from the Special Presentation format as part of its reshuffle. Those rumors had gathered some momentum due to the fact that it has been over two years since the last one was released on the Disney Plus streaming service, and there had been no announcements about any upcoming ones in the years since.

So far, the studio has made two Disney Plus specials, both of which were seasonal. The first was Werewolf by Night, a 2022 Halloween special focused on the Marvel Comics character of the same name and it made headlines for being the franchise's first attempt at horror. It also received praise for how it successfully recreated the look of classic black-and-white horror movies from the decades gone by.

That same year, the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was released during the Christmas season, allowing us to catch up with James Gunn's crew of MCU outcasts and misfits during the holiday season, bridging the gap between the second and third movies. It too received acclaim for channelling the classic holiday TV specials, using the warmth of the holiday season to develop and tell one of the MCU's ongoing family-centric stories.

Though Feige doesn't say what the new special will be, it's good to know that the format hasn't been done away with in all the changes at Marvel. Truthfully, the Special Presentations are a great way of showcasing lesser-known characters for short adventures and far less of a financial risk than big-budget movies or TV shows. It's wonderful to know that the format will continue to be used at Marvel because, honestly, they make for fun additions to the MCU.

This will no doubt put the minds of fans at ease, as there were concerns that the change-of-direction at Marvel Studios would result in a lot of the more creative new elements in Phases Four and Five would be dropped going forward. While that might still be the case, the fact that another special is on the horizon does confirm that these one-hour events won't be among the cancelled or shelved aspects of the franchise. But, as fans await any announcements on the future of multiple Disney Plus shows, it's good to have a bit of clarity on the future of the Special Presentations in the meantime.
