It feels a bit odd talking about James "Rhodey" Rhodes after the character's disastrous involvement in Disney Plus series Secret Invasion because we can't truly be sure when he stopped being Rhodey in the MCU timeline, but we're going to hazard a guess that everything we had seen right up Captain America: Civil War was the real Rhodey.

One of the longest-standing characters in the MCU. Rhodey first appeared all the way back in the first Iron Man movie and he has gone on quite the journey since. Tony Stark's best friend and a US Air Force officer, he eventually operated his own Iron Man armor and became known as the War Machine. That suit is more complex than Tony's as it was modified by the government to make him an asset to the military but it's also bulkier, which is something of a drawback.

Like his fellow Avengers on this end of the list, Rhodey might not have superpowers, but he is built to hang with those that do. He was already a well-respected and decorated officer before he became an Avenger and he quickly made his presence felt on the team when he did. There's a reason everyone loves Rhodey (and a large part of that is Don Cheadle's remarkable performance), and we can't wait to see just how strong he is when he takes center stage in the MCU's Armor Wars project.
