Marvel Studios has been showcasing just how far it can take the notion of anything being possible in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as its Multiverse Saga is showing us just how ambitious it can be in that specific task (among many others). The possibilities for what could actually happen in the Multiverse Saga are endless, but if there is one constant that audiences have come to count on seeing, it's probably returns.

We've already had both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprise their respective versions of Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, while X-Men stars Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman brought their respective characters of Charles Xavier and Wolverine back in different projects, too. And now, we know that Robert Downey Jr. will make a comeback to the legendary franchise in the upcoming two Avengers movies, but not at all in the role you'd expect; he's playing the villainous Doctor Doom.

Speaking of the Iron Man star, it sounds like we could be about to see a different cast member from one specific Iron Man movie make their presence felt in a somewhat unexpected return.

Sam Rockwell rumored to return as Justin Hammer in Armor Wars

According to Marvel scooper account Marvel Updates, Sam Rockwell has reportedly agreed to return to the Marvel Studios franchise in upcoming movie Armor Wars, reprising his Iron Man 2 role of Justin Hammer.

While there hasn't been any official confirmation on that as of yet, it is an interesting possibility because, even though Justin Hammer wasn't on the list of characters that anyone would have really expected to return, it would make a lot of sense to feature him in a project like Armor Wars. After all, he and Colonel James Rhodes go way back.

Armor Wars is set to star Don Cheadle, who reprises his role as "Rhodey" as the character attempts to prevent Tony Stark's technology from falling into the wrong hands. This will no doubt be a poignant film as Rhodey was Tony's best friend and he will do everything he can to preserve Iron Man's legacy while also guarding the world from harm.

But nobody was more obsessed with Tony's technology than Justin Hammer. The man lived in Iron Man's shadow throughout his professional life and, as we saw so very clearly in Iron Man 2, he was willing to do anything to best him. That included sending a murderous villain known as Whiplash after Tony and even stealing Stark Tech in a bid to engineer his own brilliant designs. None of that happened, and he lost spectacularly when Pepper Potts had him arrested and Tony stopped Whiplash - with the help of Rhodey, who had a suit of his own and became the hero known as War Machine.

It will be interesting to see if this rumor of his return comes to fruition. It's worth mentioning that Armor Wars has had quite the journey to screen over the past four years, with it initially being announced as a Disney Plus series. Two years later, it was reimagined as a movie instead, but there have yet to be any more announced developments on the project.

As a result of that, speculation about the movie's future has been increasing in recent months, with a number of reports and rumors suggesting that Marvel was considering cancelling it. As Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce what's happening with the film, it's best to hold off on any kind of speculation. From an official standpoint, it's still happening.

The possibility of Justin Hammer's return in Armor Wars is exciting alone, but it's also equally exciting that it's one of the first positive rumors about the movie to make its way around the internet in some time, suggesting that there might still be life in Armor Wars yet. Here's hoping the project does make it to the screen and that Hammer makes an appearance. That would be pretty darn epic indeed.
