We've said many times before that anything can happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Marvel Studios has been going out of its way to prove that in its Multiverse Saga. Honestly, it's hard to argue with the logic here because when you mix and match popular heroes from multiple worlds, it's easy to see how options open for storytelling.

We've already seen the three cinematic Spider-Men cross over, the return of X-Men stars Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, the MCU debut of Deadpool, and the first signs that the MCU's X-Men are on the horizon. And, perhaps most shocking of all, Robert Downey Jr. will return to the franchise as an alternate version of Tony Stark, who went on to become the villainous Doctor Doom in his world.

The returns, the cameos, the crossovers; it's all possible in the MCU. And it sounds like Marvel isn't slowing down when it comes to surprising audiences as it is reportedly planning to have two major MCU characters unexpectedly interact.

Scarlet Witch and Spider-Man to interact in upcoming Avengers movies

According to a new report from prolific Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello, there is a plan to have Spider-Man and the Scarlet Witch meet in a future MCU project. The report states that the two will interact in at least one of the upcoming Avengers movies, in which both Peter Parker and Wanda Maximoff are expected to have big roles.

Needless to say, this would be a pretty unexpected crossover as both characters come from very different aspects of the MCU. Spidey is, of course, a young boy from a neighbourhood in Queen's, New York, who was bitten by a radioactive spider that granted him the abilities he possesses; Wanda is from Sokovia and had her ancient, dormant powers amplified by an Infinity Stone before having them amplified further by the Darkhold. One is a bit more grounded, while the other is incredibly supernatural, mystical, and all-powerful.

If the duo do cross paths, it wouldn't be the first time they have shared the screen in the MCU. Both crossed paths in Captain America: Civil War when Spider-Man made his MCU debut as part of Team Iron Man (Wanda was part of Team Captain America), and they also teamed together as part of the huge Avengers line-up that battled and defeated Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. But in the midst of all that fighting, they have never truly interacted.

Both have gone on to become leading figures in the MCU in the years since then. As Spider-Man, Peter has become one of the franchise's biggest heroes, while Wanda developed into her more-powerful alter-ego, the Scarlet Witch. That initially took her down a dark path as she allowed her grief (and the corruption of the Darkhold) to drive her, but she subsequently sacrificed herself to destroy the Darkhold once and for all.

Even though the Scarlet Witch seemingly died in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, she is expected to return at some point. Elizabeth Olsen's performance is beloved by fans and the Multiverse Saga was only beginning to showcase the character's true potential. Similarly, Spider-Man's last appearance was pretty bittersweet too as he sacrificed his chance at happiness by allowing everyone he loved to forget he existed.

If the two do cross paths in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, they will be very different people than they were the last time they were within the vicinity of each other. But what could result in this unexpected interaction? Could Spider-Man need the Scarlet Witch's help undoing the spell he asked Doctor Strange to cast in Spider-Man: No Way Home? Could Wanda need advice on how to be a hero again, now that Tom Holland's Spidey is expected to become a major leader in the next iteration of the Avengers?

Whether they interact or not, it makes total sense that both Wanda and Peter would play major roles in these films. Both have been staples of the Multiverse Saga, playing important roles in some of its most vital projects; it's only right that they take center stage for the two movies that will bring the saga to a close.
