It seems Marvel Studios has its eyes on more than just the characters we’ve previously met in Sony’s Spider-Man franchise films.

According to a new rumor, Marvel has apparently attempted to persuade Sony to allow them to use an iconic character from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse within the Marvel Cinematic Universe in what would be the character’s live-action debut! Now, before we get into things, it’s important to note that this is only a rumor and neither Marvel nor Sony has confirmed anything but if it pans out we could soon be seeing an iconic character making his live-action debut.

Marvel is trying to get Spider-Man 2099 for the MCU

As first reported by scooper Cryptic HD QUALITY, Marvel was hoping to introduce Miguel O’Hara (aka Spider-Man 2099) into the MCU as part of its Multiverse storyline, one that would have seen Miguel teaming up with a Kang variant. The rumored alliance would have seen the two characters teaming up with Kang seeking power and Miguel simply seeking stability.

Sony is rumored to have viewed the want as a “huge ask” which is absolutely understandable as it most certainly would have been, considering Spider-Man 2099 was a breakout character in the Sony animated Spider-Verse franchise and has yet to make a live-action debut on either the big or small screen.

Now, given what has happened in recent months regarding the plan for Kang following the firing of Jonathan Majors, the rumor is that the particular storyline Marvel was viewing would not be happening any longer. However, it is rumored that Marvel is still hoping to bring Miguel into the mix, and there is apparently a really good chance that he will be making his live-action debut in the “near future with a new team.”

Spider-Man 2099 could be in Avengers: Secret Wars

With speculation growing that Marvel is working to get Sony to allow them to introduce a live-action version of Miguel O’Hara into the MCU, it seems there is a viable project in which many believe the character could end up popping up in one of its upcoming Avengers projects.

Following the initial reports that Marvel attempted to bring Miguel into the MCU via a storyline connected to Kang, scooper Rejected Scooper hinted that Marvel might be eyeing a role for Miguel in Avengers: Secret Wars. While perhaps not what Marvel might have originally planned, Miguel’s inclusion in Secret Wars would definitely be an exciting addition to what promises to be a stacked cast full of characters from across the MCU.

We don’t quite know what Marvel’s plan is for adapting the comic storyline, but if they tie it into the Multiverse Saga there are so many ways they could look to bring Miguel into the mix. He could enter the picture as a member of the Avengers 2099 team, or he could become trapped in the past somehow leading to his presence in the film as an ally (or potential foe) to the Avengers team that Marvel assembles.

Regardless of how Marvel might look to bring Miguel into the mix, the fact that they’re currently rumored to be working with Sony on finding a way to make it happen is definitely exciting for Spider-Man and Marvel fans alike!
