Marvel Studios reportedly recasting key MCU role for new Disney+ series
By Cody Schultz
When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios has a pretty solid track record of avoiding recasts with most actors who originate key roles remaining in the role until the time comes for their character to step back from the franchise. However, like all studios, there have been a few notable instances in which Marvel Studios recast a key character such as when the studio recast the role of Rhodey or The Hulk.
Recasts are a part of the industry and can occur for a number of reasons including the need to age a character which results in the studio needing to bring in an older actor to play a certain character. We saw this recently with Cassie Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and will next see it occur within Agatha All Along as Joe Locke takes over the role of Billy aka Wiccan as Marvel looks to age the character up from when we last saw him in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Fans are eager to see how exactly Marvel ages Billy and what Locke brings to the role, but his inclusion in the project has left many wondering what comes of his brother Tommy. Tommy’s name has not come up in any discussions around the show and it’s unlikely we’ll see Tommy in Agatha All Along. However, it seems that could be by design as a new rumor suggests Marvel is currently looking to bring Tommy back into the mix via another upcoming Disney+ original series!
Marvel rumored to be recasting Tommy for Vision Quest
While we might not get to see Tommy in Agatha All Along, it seems Marvel Studios is hoping to have Tommy play a role in another WandaVision spinoff with rumors suggesting he’ll be a key part of Vision Quest.
According to a recent report from scooper Daniel RPK, Marvel is aiming to begin filming Vision Quest this fall and is currently working on assembling the film’s cast. Among those Marvel is currently casting is the role of a young male co-lead who's 18-20s, a role that is believed to be for Tommy, which makes total sense.
We don’t quite know what exactly Marvel has planned for Vision Quest, but it’s been assumed that the show would have strong ties to WandaVision given the show introduced this new version of Vision into the MCU. As we explore Vision’s story further, it would make sense that at least a few members of his family would be present and Tommy seems like the perfect character to co-lead the series.
Knowing that Joe Locke has been tapped to play an older version of Billy, we anticipated that Marvel would also look to recast the role of Tommy. The biggest question simply became a matter of when the recast could happen and when we might next see Tommy enter the mix.
What’s going to be interesting is to see if Tommy is mentioned at all within Agatha All Along and whether the series will lead into Vision Quest in any way. Either way, we’re going to be curious to see who Marvel might tap to play Tommy and are excited to see Billy and Tommy become bigger players in the MCU – especially knowing a Young Avengers project is coming soon!
