3. "What If... Kahhori Reshaped the World?" (Season 2, episode 6)

The most original hour in What If...?'s two seasons, the sixth episode doesn't rewrite the MCU as we know it, it tells its own original story involving its own original character. And the result is nothing short of glorious.

"What If... Kahhori Reshaped the World?" sees the Tesseract crash-land on Earth, where it is found by a young Mohawk woman named Kahhori after she falls into a lake imbued with its power - which sends her to the Sky World and grants her powers and immortality. Though she longs to return to her own world to save her village from Spanish Conquistadors, it's seemingly impossible to approach the portal. That is, until Kahhori makes it possible, and her fellow Sky World villagers join her in returning to save their world.

I can't fully put into words just how successful this episode is. Kahhori is a wonderful protagonist; she's fierce and strong, and so well-characterized in just 30 minutes. Her determination to protect her brother and her community is the driving force behind this episode, and that will to overcome the oppressors and set things right leads to an incredibly powerful final battle. It's one of What If...? season 2 's most moving scenes, and one of the many reasons why this is one of the show's best ever episodes.
