Daredevil is set to return to the MCU for a sequel series to this classic but the sting of the original series cancellation is still felt around the world by fans. Daredevil ran for three seasons on Netflix, kickstarting a new era for superheroes on streaming and Marvel TV on that specific streamer. Oh yes, it launched a whole shared universe on the small screen, spawning spinoffs such as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher. But unfortunately, its cancellation in 2018 led to the complete destruction of that shared universe.

This is one of the most frustrating cancellations of both a Marvel and superhero show of all time. The show was critically-acclaimed, maintaining its high standard for all three seasons, and it was a strong performer for Netflix. So why was it cancelled? Well, Disney launching a competing streaming service in Disney Plus is rumored to have ended the partnership between the two, while another report claims it might have been too expensive.

While we're extremely excited to see Daredevil: Born Again, we can't help but wonder what a fourth season of the original show would have looked like. It was on such a roll, producing three incredible, grounded, and compelling seasons and there is no reason to think that a season 4 wouldn't have been either.

The show wasn't considered canon to the MCU in the years after its cancellation, but the arrivals of Charlie Cox's Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson "Kingpin" Fisk in the MCU (along with the release of Echo) all led to Marvel canonizing the shows. And as that has led to the arrival of Daredevil: Born Again, we are so thankful for that.
