7 MCU shows that Marvel has cancelled (too soon)
3. The Punisher
Another part of the Netflix Marvel shared universe cut down too soon, The Punisher was the wild card as that show was not part of the original line-up. That universe had been crafted with four shows that were set to build towards The Defenders, with all four continuing on after that. The Punisher, on the other hand, was a direct spinoff of Daredevil, focusing on the character of Frank Castle and his violent crusade against criminals.
Jon Bernthal originally portrayed the role of The Punisher in Daredevil season 2 before returning for the spinoff. He was incredible, as was Daredevil's Deborah Ann Woll, who reprised her role as Karen Page in the series. And even though it ran for two seasons, it felt like it had been prematurely cancelled - because, again, this wasn't supposed to be the end of the Marvel Netflix era.
The good news is that Bernthal is set to reprise his role as The Punisher in Daredevil sequel series Daredevil: Born Again, once again confirming that the events of the Marvel Netflix series take place in the MCU. And now that it has set the stage for his official arrival in the franchise, could this lead to a new series for him, too?
The Punisher was only scratching the surface of what it was capable of and it never really got the chance to recover from its lackluster second season because of the ending of the franchise it was part of. Now is the time to correct that mistake.
