HAYLEY ATWELL in Marvel's Agent Carter

1. Agent Carter

It's probably a bit odd to say that Agent Carter, a show set in the MCU's past, was ahead of its time, but it's true. The show was absolutely ahead of its time and it never really received the appreciation it deserved as a result of that.

Airing on ABC between 2015 and 2016, it ran for two seasons, showcasing how Peggy Carter worked her way up the SSR and proved herself to be a valuable agent during in a male-dominated society. It was set after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger and dealt with Peggy's grief over the loss of Steve Rogers and how she made a name for herself in her field. Yes, it's basically a lengthier and more detailed adaptation of the Agent Carter one-shot, but it justifies its own existence, showcasing Peggy's grit and determination, all while providing a compelling spy thriller of a storyline.

Like Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter has been retroactively removed from the MCU due to the fact Marvel Studios wasn't directly involved in it (and that the one-shot tells the same story in a shorter amount of time) but the franchise was all the better off for including it. It added some welcome context to Peggy's story and set the stage for her eventual founding of SHIELD. It's a travesty that the show was cancelled before it got the chance to tell that story.

This one was on the network, ABC, as they wanted Hayley Atwell to star in a more mainstream, less-expensive, present-day-set series, but Marvel have yet to give it the conclusion they deserve. Honestly, they ought to produce a third season for the Disney Plus streaming service to give it that conclusion it deserves.
