2023 has not been a great year for Marvel with both Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels bombing at the box office. What affected the 2024 releases of Marvel Studios film productions in addition to most studio films (as well as independent films) were the writers’ and actors’ strikes including Captain America: Brand New World.

Although ComicBookMovie.com has claimed that was not the only reason for the delay of Brave New World, it is rumored test screenings did not perform as well according to their source. The solution, as reported by Deadline, is to bring in consulting producer and one of the writers of the Disney Plus series, Moon Knight, Matthew Horton.

Horton will be contributing to the writing of scenes that will be shot in additional photography which should take place between spring and summer 2024.

CBM stated that three key sequences were cut, prompting claims of changes to the overall storyline being made, mainly due to the length of additional photography scheduled. While Deadline did not provide any further details regarding any particular reshoots, it is presumed by one rumor that it is merely the action sequences that are the core issue.

Signs do point to this being more of a Rogue One: A Star Wars Story situation as opposed to a scenario wherein it’s the theatrical cut of 2017’s Justice League. As an aspiring wordsmith for the screen as well, what could be interesting is if the rewrites are enough for Horton to receive arbitration for credit to the screenplay.

Captain America: Brand New World stars Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Harrison Ford, and Liv Tyler.

Julius Onah is directing from a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson. Kevin Feige and Nate Moore are producing for Marvel Studios under Walt Disney Studios.

Mackie’s high-flying Capt. is set to don the jet-pack All-American stripes on the big screen in theaters on Feb. 14, 2025.
