6. Susan Williams and Oliver Queen

You know when a TV show decides to separate the couple it is committed to for a little bit but just decides to throw in another romance for the sake of it? Well that's what Oliver Queen's romance with Susan Williams on Arrow season 5 was.

After the drama, drama, drama that Oliver and Felicity caused in season 4, the fifth season benefitted a great deal from the fact that they were no longer together. Suddenly everything didn't revolve around their relationship and that was one of the reasons why Arrow season 5 was so good. It could focus on what actually brought the show to life, and it was all the better for it.

That said, Oliver's relationship with Susan was a bit of a dull patch for the otherwise great season. It was just there to exist, giving Oliver a romantic relationship to keep the Olicity fans waiting for longer. Susan wasn't all that well developed outside of being a motivated reporter who asked Oliver the hard questions. Tossing her into a relationship with him was a bit predictable and totally unnecessary. Once that happened, well, nothing happened for her after that.

The hate for the Oliver and Susan relationship is definitely stronger than it needed to be, but that's what happens when shippers are involved. Oliver was never going to end up with Susan, but the fans just didn't want him with anyone but Felicity. As the show suggested Susan might be evil at one point, it looked like fans were right to be cautious of her. And then nothing happened, making the whole thing - yet again - pointless.
