10 most disliked Arrowverse couples, ranked
5. Lena Luthor and James Olsen
Remember how we talked about stop gap relationships? Well Supergirl's finest example of that might just be the one that developed between Lena Luthor and James Olsen.
James, a longtime critic of Lena, begins to notice how smart, efficient, and beautiful she is. And Lena, used to being criticised and doubted, was touched. Yes, there was chemistry, but it all felt very predictable. As though this relationship had simply been devised to benefit the plot - which is exactly the case.
The longer TV shows go on and the more their casts grow, the more they tend to group them up to create less storylines. James and Lena were easy targets here. The irony is that, even though few people wanted to see them together, they developed a pretty solid relationship. I know that I didn't expect to enjoy their scenes in the back half of season 3 as much as I did.
Unfortunately, it also ended in predictable fashion, with James and Lena's conflicting views on life pulling them apart. Yes, that happens in real life too, but this is television, and the whole thing just left fans wondering what was even the point of pairing them up in the first place.
It was a pairing of convenience and nothing more.
