The Eternaut is without a doubt one of the most famous comic books to come out of Argentina. Written by Hector German Oesterheld with art by Francisco Lopez, The Eternaut, or, El Eternauta, ran from 1957 to 1959.

The story followed Juan Salvo and his allies as they fought against an alien invasion which destroyed most of the Earth. The aliens are a mysterious force, rarely seen and unknown to the humans.

Lopez's artwork is beautiful, absolutely full of life, especially for black and white. Oesterheld is often remembered for The Eternaut, and for good reason, it is an incredible feat even among his other great works such as Mort Cinder. Now, it's set to become a TV series.

Netflix's The Eternaut arrives in 2025

Netflix has announced that The Eternaut will be added to their lineup in 2025. The streaming service's website refers to it as Argentinian, and Sci Fi TV for its genres. Whenever it premieres, it's going to be the realization of a long-awaited moment. The original comic has been called unfilmable in the past - due to its grand scale and some adaptations in the past which never saw the light of day. Now, Netflix is helping make it a reality.

A poster has been revealed along with the 2025 release window, featuring Juan Salvo in his iconic isolation suit. The suit is blue, which is new to this adaptation. Little else is known save for some of the stars, including Ricardo Darin.

The Eternaut is a bold project for Netflix to undertake. But there is a huge potential for this to be one of the greatest comic book adaptations of all time. The source material is amazing, and promises to be completely unique among comic book adaptations.

It's is a one of a kind comic book, and the TV show promises to be no different. There is nothing quite like Oesterheld's world building and characters. It's true; Netflix may well be about to deliver one of the greatest comic book shows ever.
