New Spawn film reboot crowned with King title

The long-gestating Spawn reboot has been renamed with a new title which could be a suggestion of where the film starring Jamie Foxx might be heading.

It seems the entrenching and almost interminable Spawn film reboot now has another name with “King” in the title.

As reported by SuperHeroHype, Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions posted the film’s new title, “King Spawn,” with a photo of the screenplay’s title page on the social media platform X. The subject of which can be found below.

Back in May, we had a promising update on the Spawn reboot, which has undergone extensive rewrites since Jamie Foxx was attached to the titular role. The most recent rewrite was from writers Matt Mixon, Malcolm Spellman, and Scott Silver.

Blum stated King Spawn is expected to be released in 2025, but given there is no actual release date, and no director is attached, even though one of the producers, the Spawn creator himself, Todd McFarlane, volunteered to direct, it is presumed he has stepped down. It will likely be pushed back to 2026 or later since, at the time the producer and studio executive stated this, it was October 2023. There have been no further developments since then.

However, in May, one of the co-writers, [Scott] Silver, co-wrote 2019’s Joker, and its sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, set to come out Oct. 4, 2024, is pushing King Spawn. It sounds as though Joker 2 may be a determining factor in where it could lead. Stay tuned these coming months, as we’ll be sure to hear some major announcements before and during the launch of Joker: Folie à Deux.
