Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast and character guide

Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiered on Disney+ on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2023, and new episodes are dropping weekly. There are so many important characters in this new TV series that play important roles in the new series, and they're going to be introduced quickly. It'll help tremendously if you've read Rick Riordan's book series of the same, but if not, we're here to help you get up to speed.

The first two episodes do a really good job of introducing fans to these characters, explaining who they are, and their background, but we know fans are going to need a reminder. This story moves quickly, and there are so many characters to remember. Our team put together a cast and character guide to introduce you to the world of Percy Jackson, Camp Half-Blood, and the Greek Gods. Let's get the list of characters started with the one and only, Percy Jackson.

Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson

Walker Scobell stars as Percy Jackson in the new Disney+ series. When viewers first meet Percy, he's a struggling 12-year-old at Yancy Academy in New York. Weird things happen to Percy, including a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where he's attacked by a Fury posing as his teacher, Mrs. Dodds. Percy defeats the monster with a ballpoint pen that turns into a sword, known as Riptide.

Percy is a half-human half-god, also known as a half-blood or demigod. He's the son of Sally Jackson and Poseidon, the God of the Sea. Percy has inherited some of his father's special abilities as the son of the Sea God, which allows him to manipulate and breathe underwater, among other things. Because Poseidon is one of the "Big Three" Gods, Percy attracts the attention of more monsters and is in more danger than other demigods.

As for Scobell, fans might recognize him from Netflix's The Adam Project. Scobell starred in the film alongside Ryan Reynolds.

Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase

Annabeth Chase is played by Leah Sava Jeffries in the series. Annabeth is the daughter of Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom. She's easily the smartest of those at Camp Half-Blood and of all the demigods. She's fascinated with architecture and problem-solving. Annabeth's weapon of choice is a celestial bronze knife, and she also has a New York Yankees hat that makes its wearer invisible. It comes in handy a lot!

When fans first meet Annabeth in The Lightning Thief, she's one of Camp Half-Blood's longest-tenured members. She's been there for five years, training and preparing for a quest after Chiron reveals that she's part of something bigger. She's been waiting for a child of the Big Three, and it's clear she's interested in how Percy attracts monsters and can beat them. When Percy is selected for a quest, he selects Annabeth and Grover to travel across the United States to retrieve Zeus's missing lightning.

Before Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Jefferies starred in Beast with Idris Elba and Something from Tiffany's starring Kendrick Sampson and Zoey Deutch.

Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood

Grover Underwood is a satyr who specializes in finding demigods and leading them to Camp Half-Blood before they're killed by monsters. In the books, we meet Grover as Percy's friend at Yancy Academy, but Grover is working with Chiron / Mr. Brunner to ensure Percy makes it out of Yancy and stays alive. After Percy is chosen for a quest, Percy surprisingly picks Grover to join Annabeth on the quest to find Zeus's missing lightning. His item of choice is his reed pipes.

Grover was also the satyr who found Annabeth, Thalia, and Luke out in the wild and led them to Camp Half-Blood. Grover's mission in life is to become a Searcher and try to find Pan, the lost God of the Wild, but he must obtain his license first, which leads him to helping the demigods to the camp.

Aryan Simhadri stars as Grover in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This is one of Simhadri's first major roles, although he has appeared in a few hit shows, including Will and Grace, The Unicorn, Sunnyside, and more.

Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson

Virginia Kull stars as Percy's mom, Sally Jackson, in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. About 13 years prior, Sally had a relationship with a man, who she later learned was the God, Poseidon. For his whole life, Sally has been keeping Percy safe for all this time. In the book, Sally works at a candy store and regularly brings Percy candies. She is married to an abusive and intentionally stinky man, Gabe Ugliano, who helps mask Percy's scent from monsters for all this time.

Kull has been a ton of shows and movies throughout her career, but she's best known for starring in Sneaky Pete with Giovanni Ribisi and Bryan Cranston, The Looming Tower, NOS4A2, and more.

Glynn Turman as Chiron / Mr. Brunner

If there's one character in Percy Jackson and the Olympians you should be excited to meet other than Annabeth, it's Chiron, also known as Mr. Brunner. When we first meet Chiron in the books, he's disguised as Mr. Brunner, Percy's teacher at Yancy Academy. He suspects Percy is a demigod and is trying to keep him safe from monsters. Chiron is a centaur, the best of the centaurs in Greek mythology, and he's also the activities director under Mr. D, also known as Dionysus, at Camp Half-Blood. Chiron acts as a supportive figure to Percy and the other demigods throughout the series.

Glynn Turman stars as Chiron in the series. Of the cast, Turman has likely starred in the most shows and movies. He's been in so many different things spanning five decades, including Gremlins, A Different World, The Wire, Super 8, House of Lies, How to Get Away With Murder, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Rustin, and more.

Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus aka Mr. D

Jason Mantzoukas stars as the Greek God, Dionysus. Mr. D, as he's known at Camp Half-Blood, is the God of wine and other pleasantries and rituals. He's the camp director at Camp Half-Blood and runs the show, despite hating every minute of being there, more or less. You see, Dionysus is also the son of Zeus and Semele, and Mr. D has been stuck at Camp Half-Blood via Zeus's orders after getting into a little mischief. He also can't indulge himself in the activity he loves most: drinking wine. At times, Mr. D can be a frustrating character and thorn in Percy's side, but largely, he's an entertaining character and brings some wit, sarcasm, and general apathy to Camp Half-Blood.

Mantzoukas is one of the most recognizable members of the Percy Jackson cast. He's been in so many shows and movies, including The League, Big Mouth, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place, Parks and Recreation, John Wick: Chapter 3, and so much more.

Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan

Charlie Bushnell stars as Luke Castellan in the series. Luke is one of the older demigods at Camp Half-Blood. He was 19 years old when we first met him in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He almost instantly befriends Percy after he arrives. Percy is placed in the Hermes cabin, which houses both Hermes' children, including Luke, and the children unclaimed by their godly parent, like Percy. Luke is an expert swordsman, strategist, and leader at Camp Half-Blood. Luke also arrived at Camp Half-Blood with Thalia, Zeus's daughter, and Annabeth after they found Annabeth on her own when she was just seven years old.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is Bushnell's second big role. Fans might also recognize Bushnell from his role as Bobby Cañero-Reed in Disney's Diary of a Future President.

Timm Sharp as Gabe Ugliano

Timm Sharp plays Gabe Ugliano, the husband of Sally Jackson, Percy's mom. That, I guess, makes him Percy's stepdad. Gabe is truly one of the worst characters in the whole series. Gabe is an abusive, smelly man, who Sally only stays with for all this time to hide Percy's strong scent from the monsters who wish him harm. As a child of the Big Three, Percy attracts a lot of attention from monsters, but Gabe masks Percy's scent. Gabe is also unemployed and drives an old car. Luckily, we don't get to learn much more about Gabe other than he stinks, both literally and figuratively.

Fans will likely recognize Sharp from his time on The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Based on a True Story, Casual, Blunt Talk, Enlightened, 'Til Death, and more.

Megan Mullally as Mrs. Dodds / Alecto

Megan Mullally is one of most recognizable stars of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. In the series, Mullally starts out as Mrs. Dodds, Percy Jackson's Pre-Algebra teacher, but that's just a mask of the Mist. Mullally's real character is Alecto, one of the Furies and sister of Tisiphone and Megaera. Alecto is one of Hades' most trusted servants in the Underworld. Alecto has a very specific reason for targetting Percy Jackson in the series and plays a very important part in this story.

Mullally is best known for playing Karen in Will and Grace, but she's starred and guest-starred in dozens of popular shows and movies, including Bob's Burgers, The Great North, Parks and Recreation, Party Down, and so many more. She'll also be in the upcoming season of The Umbrella Academy.

Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue

Clarisse La Rue is one of Percy Jackson's first real enemies at Camp Half-Blood. Clarisse is the daughter of Ares and one of the leaders at camp. She instantly eyes Percy as an adversary after it's revealed that he killed a Minotaur on his way to Camp Half-Blood. We don't know how old Clarisse is, but she's definitely one of the older demigods at camp. She's an expert in weaponry and strategy, thanks to her father, the God of War. Clarisse wields a spear in combat.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is one of Goodjohn's first major roles. As the series goes on, Clarisse becomes a major, major character in this story. Goodjohn also starred in Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Head of the Class.

Adam Copeland as Ares

Adam Copeland stars as Ares, the God of War, in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. With Olympus on the brink of war, Ares finds himself in a precarious position and unable to stop the inevitable bloodshed should Percy not succeed in his quest to find and return Zeus's Master Bolt. Ares is portrayed as a big biker dude wielding a massive sword. As the God of War, Ares is in an expert in combat. He's quick to anger, and you don't want to end up on his bad size. He's also the father of Clarisse La Rue and the other Ares cabin campers.

Adam Copeland is a professional wrestler, known as Edge. That's what he's most famous for, but he's also starred in Vikings, Haven, and other shows and movies.

Lance Reddick as Zeus

Lance Reddick stars as Zeus, the King of Olympus and God of Lightning and Thunder. There's no doubt that Zeus the leader on Mount Olympus, where he lives. Zeus is also incredibly vain and takes insults very personally. Zeus also happens to be the youngest son of Kronos; the brother of Poseidon and Hades; and husband of Hera. Zeus is also the father of Thalia, who he turned into a tree by her father at Camp Half-Blood to keep her alive, while Thalia, Luke, Annabeth, and Grover tried to get to Camp Half-Blood.

Reddick died in 2023 before the premiere of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Reddick was 60 years old. He's been in so many good movies and shows, including the John Wick film series, Bosch, Fringe, The Wire, Oz, and more.

Jay Duplass as Hades

Jay Duplass stars as Hades in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Hades is the God of the Dead and presides in the Underworld. In the series, Percy's quest leads him to Hades and the Underworld. He's also the firstborn son of Kronos and husband of Persephone. Hades' weapon of choice is his Helm of Darkness, which is dear to the God and is a source of his power. Does Hades have any children worth mentioning? We'll have to wait and see.

Fans will recognize Duplass from The Chair, Transparent, Togetherness, Industry, Pain Hustlers, Search Party, and other shows and movies. He's also the brother of Mark Duplass with whom Jay has collaborated to produce a number of movies and shows.

Toby Stephens as Poseidon

Call him Daddy! Toby Stephen stars as Poseidon, the father of Percy Jackson, in the series. Poseidon is the God of the Sea, and he's the brother of Zeus and Hades. He's also the son of the Titan, Kronos. Poseidon dwells in his ocean kingdom as a king. I mean, it makes sense. Zeus owns the air and skies, while Poseidon reigns over the sea. Hades, then, gets the Underworld. In battle, Poseidon wields his famous trident. Poseidon is also one of the most powerful Gods with the ability to bring storms, earth quakes, and much more. Don't get on his bad side, either. He does, I have to say, seem much more chill than his brothers, Zeus and Hades, though.

Stephens has made a great career in TV and movies. Fans will definitely recognize him from Lost in Space, Die Another Day, Black Sails, and more.

Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes

Hermes, played by Lin-Manuel Miranda, is the father of Luke Castellan. He's also the God of Travel, among other things. He often acts as a messenger/mailman of sorts of the Gods in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Hermes pops up from time to time to "help" our heroes.

Miranda is one of the most popular stars of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast. The creator, writer, composer, and star of Hamilton is what Miranda is most well known for, but he's also starred, written, directed, and composed on a number of major films and shows, including Disney's Moana, Encanto, Mary Poppins Returns, His Dark Materials, and more.

Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus

If you need something built, forged, fired, created, or repurposed, Hephaestus, the God of Forges, among other things, is your guy. He's the son of Hera and stepson of Zeus. His children at Camp Half-Blood are the builders, workers, and creators who build son incredible tech and weapons in the battles to come. Hephaestus is also the husband of Aphrodite, but look, he gets jealous, okay? And, it looms large in Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Timothy Omundson stars as Hephaestus in the series. Omundson has appeared in a bunch of hit shows and movies over the years, including Mission: Impossible III, Psych, Judging Amy, Starship Troopers, This Is Us, Galavant, and many more.

Jessica Parker Kennedy as Medusa

Jessica Parker Kennedy plays Medusa in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I think we all know the story of Medusa, but it looms large, especially with the son of Poseidon and daughter of Athena traversing the greater United States on a quest. Long story short, Athena curses Medusa, who was very beautiful, for her relationship with Poseidon. Medusa develops snakes for hair and also turns anyone who looks her in the eye to stone. In the series, Medusa is one of the first monsters, if you want to call her that, who Percy, Annabeth, and Grover come across in Rick Riordan's book series of the same name.

Fans will recognize Jessica Parker Kennedy from The Flash, Black Sails, The Secret Circle, and other shows and movies. In The Flash, she plays Barry and Iris's daughter, Nora.

Suzanne Cryer as Echidna

Suzanne Cryer plays one of the most interesting villains in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Echidna, the Mother of Monsters. Yeah, the M.O.M.! Not to be confused with the rodent creature of the same name, Echidna is the daughter of Gaea and Tartarus, and man, she's mean! She's also the wife of Typhon. No spoilers, but Echidna plays a big role in the series, and we'll meet her very soon. I can't wait to see how the character and her minions develop and throw wrenches in the gears for Percy and the heroes throughout this story.
