Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 is officially "heading to the Sea of Monsters" after Disney+ renewal
By Bryce Olin
We have some great news to share about Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2! During Disney's quarterly earnings call, Bob Iger announced Percy Jackson and the Olympians is officially renewed for season 2 on Disney+.
The first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians came to an end on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024. Disney announced more than 110 million hours of the series were streamed on Disney+ and Hulu. With those numbers, the renewal should not surprise anyone. Percy Jackson and the Olympians is one of the most popular shows on Disney+, and it's only getting bigger.
Rick Riordan, author of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series and executive producer of the Disney+ series, had this to say about season 2, via Disney+:
"I can’t wait to bring the next season of Percy Jackson to Disney+! Raise anchors. Hoist the mainsail. All hands on deck, demigods. We’re heading for the Sea of Monsters!"
What is Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 about?
As Riordan notes, Percy Jackson is headed for the Sea of Monsters in the new season of the series. The first season is based on The Lightning Thief, while season 2 will be based on the second book of Riordan's series, The Sea of Monsters.
At the end of the first season, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover agreed to meet at Camp Half-Blood next summer. As all book readers know, they won't last there long. There's another quest to be taken. It will be interesting to see what creative liberties will be taken and how it differs from The Sea of Monsters, but Percy, Annabeth, and Grover will be on another adventure of sorts in the Sea of Monsters, where they'll meet more Gods and, of course, monsters throughout the story.
Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri are confirmed to return for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, according to Disney. We should also see many of the supporting cast of season 1, including Virginia Kull, Jason Mantzoukas, Glynn Turman, and more!
I'm so excited for season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Although The Sea of Monsters is one of my least favorite of the Percy Jackson books. It's not bad; I promise. The second half of this series is so good, but The Sea of Monsters is a really important book in the overall arcs of Percy, Annabeth, and Grover. It's great!
Disney did not announce when to expect Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, but it's been rumored that production will start this spring or summer. Assuming everything goes well, we could see the new season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiere by the end of the year. It's also possible Disney could hold the series or continue working on the new season until 2025. We'll just have to wait and see.
