Rahul Kohli has revealed he auditioned for Reed Richards
While casting is underway for The Fantastic Four, the latest cast of whom being the queen of quirky and cool herself, Natasha Lyonne, in an undisclosed role, there is one actor who did not quite cut and that is Brit, Rahul Kohli.
Kohli revealed he auditioned for the role of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic as per the Salaam Nerds podcast on YouTube. The role ultimately went to Pedro Pascal.
While the Midnight Mass and iZombie actor did nab the role of the leader of Marvel’s First Family, there are still other projects upcoming that have not been released yet such as a Stephen King adaptation called The Life of Chuck and an animated series inspired by Norse mythology, Twilight of the Gods.
"On bad days, ‘It’s a reminder that you’re not the guy. You’re not there. You’re not there. These are the roles you’ll never get.’ So, it’s sweet and it’s perspective. It’s how you feel about yourself."
During the interview on Salaam Nerds, referring to the audition Kohli said “Yeah, I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about it but I didn’t get it, is the important thing. But on good days, I see the Constantine.” Clearly taking things hard on himself, as creative’s normally do he added: “It will flare up once and again. And, I love all of them. On good days, you’re like, ‘Man, I’m wanted!’ People really want to see it. You’re the guy that people will shout for anything.”
While this writer has not seen any roles from Kohli that show any indication as to whether he would be great as Reed or not, he is aware of the fan casting that even the Dead and Other Deals actor referred to also.
Sadly, Kohli will not join the cast that will include Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. The Fantastic Four also stars Julia Garner as Silver Surfer, Paul Walter-Hauser, John Malkovich, Ralph Ineson, and Natasha Lyonne.
Matt Shakman is directing The Fantastic Four from a screenplay by Eric Pearson, Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer. Kevin Feige is producing for Marvel Studios under Walt Disney Studios.
Marvel’s First Family is set to launch in theaters on July 25, 2025.
