2. Venom vs Kraven

Up until this point, we've talked about the importance of giving players a challenging experience when taking on boss fights. Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4 unfortunately failed in this aspect, so even if Spidey had to battle more than one villain at the time most encounters weren't memorable whatsoever.

Granted, the level of difficulty isn't everything that matters in bosses, but it does hold a great weight. So if we give the second-highest spot on this ranking list to the fight between Venom and Kraven in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, that means it has to be challenging... right?

Well, not at all. But while that usually plays against the boss, here it makes the sequence all the more gratifying. Let us explain:

Kraven acts as the main antagonist for the first two acts of the game. Up until that point, players have seen him kill other iconic characters such as Scorpion and even had the opportunity to fight him in a difficult boss battle as Spider-Man. So when the time finally came for round two, we couldn't help but feel insanely excited to face him as Venom instead of our friendly neighborhood hero. After all, the Lethal Protector did make for a worthy contender, unlike everyone else who faced him before.

It's a common trope to establish a new, stronger antagonist as a force to be reckoned with by having him kill an already-established villain. But even if the concept itself isn't something new, it did prove to be an effective storytelling device in this game. Why? Because the fight itself was easy. Players already knew how strong Kraven was when they fought him as Spider-Man. So the fact that he was unable to put up a challenge for Venom speaks as to the symbiote's strength and power.

Not only did this boss give a fitting end to Kraven's story, but it also served to establish Venom as a truly intimidating monster. The fight was crude and violent, and it was a huge turning point in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 story. It would've been the best fight in the game had it not been for our first pick on this ranking list.
