7. Sandman

Yes, we know. Sandman is not a very tough boss at all, but what he lacks in difficulty is easily compensated by the sheer amount of spectacle it offers. There was no better way to start Marvel's Spider-Man 2 off than with an encounter ripped straight from an old-fashioned God of War game. Previous Spider-Man projects developed by Insomniac are great, and yet their starting mission seems like child's play compared to what they were able to achieve now.

Since Flint Marko's boss fight acts as the tutorial mission, it (reasonably) doesn't push players to their limit. Its ultimate goal is to teach you basic mechanics like how to heal, dodge attacks, and use web wings. However, those concepts could've been taught in a boring, very tutorial-ly manner in an empty room against faceless enemies (much like Marvel's Avengers or Gotham Knights training missions).

Was it necessary to go all over the top for the game's tutorial? Not really. Is it something we're thankful for? Definitely.

Sandman's boss fight takes place across different breath-taking arenas. It starts right in the heart of the city before shifting to the inside of a building and finishing things off in the middle of a sandstorm. All of these quick swaps act in favor of the boss' scope and its spectacle, greatly enhancing the experience.

Better yet, this is one of the few times where both Spider-Men team up and take on the supervillain at the same time which was a joy to see. But even if it appeared that nothing would top off facing a giant monster, the fight ends with Marko warning players that the worst was yet to come. (A moment that truly sent shivers down my spine). Needless to say, it was the perfect way to start things off in a Spider-Man game.

Another detail worth mentioning is that Marko's fight leaves a big scar on the city way after it's finished. Spider-Man can swing across torn buildings and empty streets filled with sand, reminding him of the epic encounter he had with one of his most recognizable nemesis. Everything related to Sandman's boss was amazing. Had it been more challenging then it would be higher on the list.
