The Hollywood Reporter has reported Camila Mendes is attached to be our new Teela in Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films’ live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe. She will be joining heartthrob, Nicholas Galitzine, 29, starring in the role opposite He-Man.

Back in May, Galitzine was announced to be cast in the role which is weeks away from Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings director, Travis Knight, signed up to be at the helm of the Masters of the Universe.

Mendes, who is well known for portraying Veronica Lodge for The CW’s Riverdale, made her transition into film mostly taking on supporting roles in films such as The New Romantic, The Perfect Date, and Palm Springs. She has since proved capable of leading in main roles such as the black comedy, Do Revenge.

The synopsis features a 10-year-old Prince Adam, who crashes to Earth in a spaceship. It reads as follows:

"Masters of the Universe follows Prince Adam aka He-Man, who crashes to Earth in a spaceship as a child and, decades later, returns to his home planet to defend it from the evil forces of the baddie known as Skeletor. But in order to defeat the powerful villain, he needs to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man, referred to in this world as the most powerful man in the universe.”

This is the first time all parties have gone this far in the process further than casting He-Man after this live-action franchise reboot has been in development hell for less than two decades. Before Galitzine, Noah Centineo and then Kyle Allen were cast as He-Man.

The screenplay's initial drafts were written by previous directors Aaron and Adam Nee, along with David Callaham, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway, before Knight was hired to direct.

Masters of the Universe stars Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Camila Mendes as Teela. Travis Knight is directing from a screenplay by Chris Butler. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner, and Steve Tisch are producing for Escape Artists in association with Mattel Films. Amazon MGM Studios is distributing.

By the power of Grayskull, Masters of the Universe will hit theaters June 5, 2026.
