Scream 7 and 4 more sequels we don't need (but we're getting anyway)

In a time where it at least feels like the majority of new releases are sequels, reboots, and remakes, we definitely don't need these movies to come out. And yet, they're happening.

The Exorcist: Deceiver

To be honest, we didn't need The Exorcist: Believer, so it goes without saying that we definitely shouldn't be getting a sequel to it. The beloved series was brought back this year with David Gordon Green helming a direct sequel to the original Exorcist movie from 1973. Let's just get right to the point — it's terrible. There are so many things wrong with The Exorcist: Believer and the fact that it's a continuation of one of the greatest horror movies of all time makes it all the more insulting. Green is developing a trilogy of Exorcist movies, meaning we're getting not just one but two more sequels. Boo!

The Exorcist: Deceiver has a release date of April 18, 2025, and horror fans have extremely low hopes for it. While Believer eventually made a lot of money at the box office, the reviews were very negative from both critics and audiences. Diehard fans of The Exorcist were very angry with the treatment of the franchise and the legacy characters who were brought back. At this point, the best Blumhouse can hope for is that Deceiver and its sequel will be easy cash grabs that people gradually forget about. I already want to forget about this trilogy.

Fast and Furious 11

After 10 movies, what is the reason for more? The Fast and Furious franchise has been going on since 2001 with a long list of sequels and a spinoff movie. And while Universal is no doubt making a ton of money off this series, the quality has hardly been consistent. The most recent installment, Fast X, was a hit with audiences but critics were less than thrilled, and I understand these are not meant to be Academy Award-winning movies, but they could be a little better.

An untitled Fast and Furious movie has been confirmed for an April 4, 2025 release, which will mark the 11th entry in the main movie series. And while I was already ready to say this franchise should bow out soon, a recent development has me convinced we definitely don't need another one. On Dec. 21, it was widely reported that Vin Diesel had been accused of sexual battery by his former assistant. The incident reportedly took place in 2010 when the actor allegedly "forced himself onto her" while in a hotel in Atlanta. His former assistant, Asta Jonasson, filed a lawsuit against him last week.

Given that Diesel is the star of the Fast and Furious franchise — he produced six of the movies, too — all eyes are on the franchise to see if the next installment will even happen. I sure don't see the need.
