Venom: The Last Dance is about to shimmy into theaters a bit earlier than fans had been anticipating! After a string of delays, Sony has changed the film’s release date in the best possible way by shifting the film’s release date up by two weeks. That’s right, instead of releasing on November 8, Venom: The Last Dance will now hit theaters on October 25 making it the perfect pre-Halloween release!

The change is definitely welcome as Venom: The Last Dance has suffered many delays since Sony first announced the third film in the franchise. October release dates have worked quite well for the franchise as both of the first films hit theaters in early October and enjoyed successful opening weekends for Sony.

Here’s why Sony moved up the Venom 3 release date

So why exactly did Sony shift the release date for Venom: The Last Dance yet again? Well, this time it actually has to do with politics. Yes, I just said politics.

According to Variety, Sony has moved the film’s release date up from November 8 to October 25 to avoid having Venom: The Last Dance open during the same week of Election Day 2024. As Variety reports, studios are looking at pulling back on their marketing efforts in the weeks leading up to the election. With Venom: The Last Dance set to hit theaters on November 8, that would put the film’s release just days after election day which falls on Tuesday, November 5.

With Sony likely to be among the studios pulling back their marketing efforts before the election, it makes sense that the studio would look to move Venom: The Last Dance’s release date. After all, the days leading up to a film’s release are often when studios will go the hardest with their promotions in hopes of getting fans to show up to theaters.

A late October release date allows Sony to promote the movie heavily before pulling back on marketing timed to the election at the top of November. The move also means there will not be any major releases coming the first week of November which could help Venom: The Last Dance in the long run as it’ll have been in theaters for about a month before the likes of Gladiator 2, Wicked, and Moana 2 arrive in late November!
