4. Sasha Calle

Appeared in: The Flash (movie)

The most recent actress to take on the role of the Girl of Steel, Sasha Calle appeared in The Flash movie in 2023. It was a major moment as it officially introduced Kara Zor-El into the DC Extended Universe, which could have led to more appearances (including a potential solo movie) if new leadership hadn't taken the franchise in a different direction.

This Kara wasn't the cheery character audiences had come to know from her recent TV adaptation and the original 1984 movie; she was much broodier, understandably angry at the world because of its unfair treatment of her. Calle did a wonderful job with this material; you could sense the weight of her feelings in those early scenes as she pondered over whether humanity was worth saving.

The truth is that Kara Zor-El is a much deeper character than most give her credit for and The Flash movie conveyed this from her very first appearance. Calle was incredibly convincing in the role and proved to be a real scene-stealer whenever she was on-screen; her performance was powerful throughout and you could feel the strength in each punch that she threw upon finding out that Zod had killed her cousin.

It's a shame that this was our only chance to see her in action, because Calle delivered an authentic portrayal of Kara that was both loyal to the comics and completely in-line with the world of the DCEU.
