6. Smallville

Worn by: Laura Vandervoort

Smallville debuted in an era where superheroes weren't all that common on television. Superheroes in super suits certainly weren't common, which is one of the many reasons why Smallville found success as a teen drama first and foremost. But as the show evolved and brought in more superheroes, it was cautious about which heroes got actual comic-accurate outfits. In the case of Supergirl, she couldn't get her full-scale super suit before Clark Kent, so the show went with a more, well, normal approach.

The basis for Kara's iconic costume is there. The blue top, the red skirt, the red boots; it's all there, but it's also just a little bland. Sure, we couldn't have the House of El symbol on the top because, again, there was no Superman yet to introduce it to the world on a Superman show, but it does feel like there could have been a bit more substance here.

We can't judge this one too harshly because it was just the prototype for her actual suit (though she never got to wear that one on the show). I see the vision, but when compared to other Supergirl suits, it doesn't quite match up. Perhaps Kara needed her own "Blur" uniform (Clark's red jacket was amazing) to add a bit more flavor to the suit, because the top and skirt just looked like, well, a top and skirt.
