3. Supergirl (1984 movie suit)

Worn by: Helen Slater

Sometimes you just can't beat the classics. This is one of those times.

The original live-action Supergirl suit was designed for the 1984 movie starring Helen Slater. A spin-off of the Christopher Reeve-led Superman movie franchise, its hero's suit was rather similar to the one worn by Reeve's Man of Steel. Sure, its design is rather simple by today's standards as it isn't made out of fabric that even remotely looks like a protective armor, but there is a timeless quality to it and that's because it was 100% comic-accurate.

It was the traditional Supergirl suit in the comics at the time, with the blue top over the red skirt combo translating to the big screen really well. The larger-than-expected cape also makes it looks rather regal, while the large gold belt adds some nice character to it.

It's simple, opting for bringing the character's comic book suit to the screen without any modifications to make it look more durable, but it was also incredibly effective for its time. Seeing Slater fly through the air in the film really did feel like you were watching the Girl of Steel from the comics come to life.
