5. Shazam! Fury of the Gods

2023 was a rough year for DC, but there were some fun highlights including Shazam! Fury of the Gods

While the sequel didn't quite manage to live up to the first film and had its flaws, as a whole, Fury of the Gods was another amazing entry in the franchise.

The heart of this franchise has always been its family elements and those dynamics were again what made Fury of the Gods such an enjoyable experience. The themes of found family pulled on our heartstrings again, this time as the franchise explored Billy’s fear of losing the family he’s just gained as he nears the age in which he’ll age out of the system.

It was a beautiful story that was perfectly executed and made the movie stand out in the crowd.

Now that’s not to say the movie didn’t have its shortcomings, but as a whole, it was such a fun watch. It’s a shame the movie never really had a chance to match the success of the first movie due to the death of the DCEU which left moviegoers hesitant to see the films knowing the stories would not get any type of proper conclusion. It’s a shame as the Easter Eggs in the end credits left us wanting more.
