It seems the wait for Superman & Lois' final season is going to be much longer than fans had originally been anticipating!

During The CW's Television Critics Association winter press tour appearance, the network set the premiere dates for several of its returning series including Walker and All American. Notably missing from the schedule was Superman & Lois which TVLine has since confirmed will not be coming until Fall 2024. That's right, we won't get getting new episodes of The CW's final Arrowverse drama until the fall.

At this time, it remains unclear when exactly in the fall the final season will premiere, but we're expecting that Superman & Lois season 4 won't be coming until late September or early October at the absolute earliest. This is much later than we had been expecting as many had expected the new season would arrive sometime in late spring or early summer.

CW boss says running Superman & Lois season 4 in the summer would be a waste

The move to hold Superman & Lois until the fall is an interesting one as it'll mean more than a year will have passed by the time the show finally returns with what will be its final 10 episodes. It's one that fans did not expect, but that Brad Schwartz, president of entertainment for The CW, apparently made as the network felt that running the final season in the summer would be a "wasted" opportunity.

“I am not kidding, this season is going to be one of the best shows on TV,” Schwartz told TVLine. “I watched the first episode last night, and it’s gonna make you cry. It’s amazing. Because of all the special effects, it could be ready for summer... we feel like it would be wasted in the summer. So let’s put it in the fall where we can sell it in the Upfront [and] really, really talk about it.”

Considering the post-production needed to bring the show's spectacular special effects to life, it's not too surprising that the show won't be ready to roll out new episodes as early as Walker and All American, but that doesn't make its delayed return any easier.

The silver lining is that it does open the door for the show to potentially make its first appearance at the likes of San Diego Comic-Con or even New York Comic Con as part of promotional efforts for the final season. Fans have longed to see Superman & Lois have the chance to attend one of the two big conventions and with the show being pushed to the fall, there is a chance Warner Bros. could look to promote the final season at one or both of the pop culture events!

Of course, just like the premiere date for the final season, we'll have to wait to see what the future might hold for Superman & Lois. All we know for now is that we won't be seeing Lois and Clark return to the screens for several months.
