The fourth and final season of Superman and Lois is currently in production and it is well-documented at this point that it will bring in legendary DC Comics villain Lex Luthor, as Michael Cudlitz joins the show full-time as a series regular. But it turns out that he won't be the only iconic DC character showing up.

The Daily Planet got much bigger, it seems, TVLine revealed that Douglas Smith had officially joined the cast of The CW series as the Man of Steel’s pal and signature Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen - just in time for the final season.

TVLine also unveiled a character description that gives a deeper insight into this latest variation of Jimmy Olsen, revealing this version is an "extroverted 20-something" known for being "the 'life of the party' around the office." The site adds, "Despite being work colleagues with Clark, he’s been unable to get him out of his 'awkward' shell. Unaware of Clark’s super-secret, Jimmy’s still determined to become his pal."

Smith’s most notable credits include portraying Ben Henrickson on HBO’s Big Love and Corey Brockfield in the second season of HBO’s Big Little Lies. In addition, his brother Gregory Smith has directed eight episodes of Superman and Lois

As of this moment, the series continues to film, but in a recent Instagram post, the star behind the Man of Steel himself, Tyler Hoechlin, revealed in a caption that the series only has five weeks of filming left in production.

The post also has a behind-the-scenes look, along with co-star Bitsie Tulloch in the middle of the Daily Planet bullpen, possibly teasing that the Kents will be back in Metropolis, and a heavier focus on Lois and Clark being full-fledged reporters in the big city or perhaps another incredible flashback episode - which has become one of the most beloved aspects of the show.

Anticipation for the final season of Superman and Lois is high. Although it's a bittersweet time for fans of the show who aren't ready for the show to conclude, it will undoubtedly go out on a high. And this is a feeling that the President of Entertainment for The CW, Brad Schwartz, also seems to share, as he revealed that the decision was made to delay it until the fall to make it feel like the event television that it is. He told TVLine:

"Because of all the special effects, it could be ready for summer… we feel like it would be wasted in the summer. So let’s put it in the fall where we can sell it in the Upfront [and] really, really talk about it"

Schwartz also noted that Superman and Lois season 4 would be worth the wait, adding that it will "blow your mind".

Superman & Lois kicks off its final season this fall on The CW. Seasons 1-3 are now available to stream on MAX
