All 15 Superman suits ranked from worst to best
4. The Superman movie suit
Worn by: Christopher Reeve
The suit that single-handedly changed the Man of Steel's legacy, Christopher Reeves' iconic outfit in Superman: The Movie was the stuff of legend. Yes, it looks simple by today's standards, but it worked incredibly well in the 1978 film and its sequels, because it built upon the previous suits and added some much-needed larger-than-life upgrades.
For starters, this was the first suit designed for color from scratch, as the serial and series versions were colored differently for black-and-white broadcast (although George Reeves did get a correctly-colored comic-accurate suit in the later seasons). And to see that legendary red blue and yellow uniform come to life on the big screen was nothing short of awe-inspiring for audiences.
It didn't look completely different from its predecessors, but what set it apart was the fact that it was made from a German fabric that was quite flexible, so that gave it a far higher-quality look. The House of El symbol on the chest was proportioned much better too, making it all the more eye-catching while also allowing it to blend into all that blue really well.
Sometimes less is more and this was the perfect example of that. The suit was a success, and Christopher Reeve was able to wear it for three more sequels. Iconic, legendary, and yet tastefully simple. That's how you change the game.
