12. Superboy

Worn by: John Haymes Newton (first suit) / Gerard Christopher (second suit)

Superboy is an often-overlooked chapter of the Man of Steel's history but, believe it or not, the series ran for four whole seasons between 1988 and 1992, and it was still very popular when it ended. While most of the effects have not aged well, the suits that were used were actually pretty great considering we are talking about television in the '80s and '90s.

There were two different suits used throughout the show's run, for the simple reason that there were two different Superboys. John Haymes Newton played the role in season 1, and his suit was a pretty close match to the one Christopher Reeve wore in the Superman movies. When Gerard Christopher replaced him for the remainder of the show's run, he too wore a rather high-quality suit (with the main difference being that the chest emblem was much larger (with a thinner outline).

Turns out that the reason the suits were so high quality was that they designed by some of the same people who worked on the films. It certainly set Superboy apart and ensured that both Haymes Newton and Christopher looked the part when in costume, as did the long red boots!
