Best and worst Marvel Phase 1 movies

Best: The Avengers

When it comes to the first phase of the MCU, it's hard to look back and not recognize The Avengers as the best of the original movies that launched the MCU. The Avengers was the culmination of years of hard work paving the way for the heroes of the MCU to come together for the first time.

The Avengers battle against Loki in NYC remains one of the most iconic battles the MCU has ever seen, and the film was full of iconic moments that would go on to define the MCU. This was a defining moment for the MCU and one that proved the Marvel Studios experiment was a smashing success and that Marvel wasn't going anywhere.

Worst: The Incredible Hulk

It's hard to fairly judge The Incredible Hulk against the other Phase 1 movies due to the fact that the film isn't viewed as an MCU movie by many fans. The role of the Hulk was recast when it came time to assemble the Avengers and we didn't see a single other key character from the movie for years within the MCU.

Part of this was because the film failed to wow audiences and left them wanting more. It wasn't nearly as impactful as the other origin stories and was a disappointing entry for the MCU. Thankfully, the movie's poor reception didn't harm the broader MCU.
