CBR disclosed a report from Hollywood insider, Daniel Richtman (aka DanielRPK), that The Young and Restless star Sasha Calle will not reprise her role as Supergirl in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU following her appearance on Andy Muschietti’s The Flash.

Casting is underway for Superman: Legacy, the most recent casting was Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor among other new additions. The character of Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl is expected to be added to the mix but Calle won't be returning with DC rumored to be looking for a new actress to play the iconic character.

Sasha Calle and her reception with DC fans

Despite the mixed reviews from critics and more favorable responses from moviegoers, The Flash was a bomb at the box office. From one of the first official trailers that premiered at the Super Bowl, it had a lot of engagement with Michael Keaton reprising his role as Batman being one of the highlights and Calle’s role as Supergirl received a lot of praise.

From what I saw, I was impressed by Calle’s portrayal, of the approximately 15 minutes of screen time she had. While there was not a lot I could gauge from her limited appearances. The little she had to work with was enough I wanted to learn more about her.

Calle’s drop from the role was not a gaping hole missing for DC but more like a square peg yet to be filled as it is expected the character will be recast due to The Flash’s performance.

Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

James Gunn is directing from the screenplay he has written. Peter Safran is producing for DC Studios under Warner Bros. Pictures.

Superman: Legacy sweeps into theatres worldwide on July 11, 2025.
