The MCU movie we've been waiting for is happening after the Multiverse Saga
The Multiverse Saga is Marvel's current focus, as the franchise continues to highlight the ever-growing world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's not just one world anymore, as there are countless out there, highlighted in projects such as Deadpool and Wolverine, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, What If...?, Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and The Marvels.
Although more multiversal heroes are expected to appear after the saga concludes (Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool are expected to stick around), the ongoing story of the Multiverse Saga is indeed expected to bow out in the same way that its predecessor (the Infinity Saga) did; with two giant-sized Avengers movies. Yep, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will end that era, but they will also kick off another new one entirely.
We don't know much about what comes next from the MCU's new chapter, but there have been reports that we can expect to see plenty of familiar faces. One of the might even star in the movie we've all wanted to see him headline.
World War Hulk movie reportedly happening after Avengers 6
According to a new report from scooper account Film News (formerly Marvel Scoops) states that Hulk will finally get his long-awaited solo movie after Avengers: Secret Wars. That's not all, though, as the post is accompanied by an image of a World War Hulk logo, suggesting that Marvel Studios may well be about to adapt the iconic Marvel Comics storyline that viewers have been waiting years to see come to life on-screen.
It's understandable if you're skeptical about that as all Marvel reports are to be taken with a pinch of salt until confirmed by the studio, but it is worth noting that this isn't the first time a World War Hulk movie has been reported by insiders. It's been a long-running rumor that has gained considerable ground in recent months, both due to more reports from reliable insiders and things that are actually happening in the MCU itself.
Insider Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus recently pointed out that Marvel's focus may be on the Multiverse Saga but that it's also lowly building towards a World War Hulk movie via a side story that has been quietly developing in projects such as Eternals, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, and Secret Invasion. The storyline is expected to continue developing through upcoming titles such as Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*.
It's also worth noting that Perez reveals the storyline won't be like the comic-book World War Hulk narrative as it will be more geared towards the grounded, government-centric storylines in the MCU than the more space-oriented one in the source material. That will involve Bruce Banner growing increasingly frustrated at the weaponization of Hulks, and his fears of governments using them for their own means.
If that's the case, the timing would be pretty ironic as fans suspected that a World War Hulk storyline might be in the works after She-Hulk: Attorney At Law revealed that Hulk had indeed fathered a son during his time on Sakaar before introducing us to him in the series finale. That son, named Skaar, ended up debuting in the World War Hulk storyline in the comics. It's unclear if he would be involved in the MCU adaptation, however, if it sounds like it might be going for a more grounded portrayal unrelated to Hulk's space adventures in Thor: Ragnarok (if it comes to fruition, that is).
This comes after reports claiming that the three remaining original Avengers, Hulk, Hawkeye, and Thor, would get solo projects after Avengers: Secret Wars. That was undoubtedly music to the ears of MCU fans as it's been a while since any of the original Avengers got the spotlight, and it could very well lead to this very project - which is, of course, a huge bonus!
If World War Hulk does go ahead, it would technically be the second solo movie featuring the Hulk character. 2008's The Incredible Hulk was the second movie in the franchise, but it is often overlooked as it did not featured Mark Ruffalo in the title role (Edward Norton played Bruce Banner in that one before Ruffalo took over in 2012's The Avengers).
Needless to say, fans have been longing to see Ruffalo's Hulk take center stage for over a decade, and any kind of World War Hulk adaptation would certainly help achieve that - especially if it returns the character to the mean, green, machine that he was in his glory days. It's time to give the Hulk the spotlight.
