Get your haunting first look at The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2
The Walking Dead Universe continues to expand and grow beyond the horizons of the original series nearly two years after its conclusion. It's all part of this new TWD Universe era, which seeks to bring back classic characters in new environments, situations, and adventures; but with the same old threat of undead danger looming over them.
With spinoffs aplenty, the TWD Universe is perhaps more alive than ever, and that was certainly the case when the long-awaited Rick and Michonne spinoff The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live aired earlier this year, bringing about the possible end of those characters' arcs. But the stories of the world continue, as we're now entering the second phase of the spinoffs era, with the second seasons of The Walking Dead: Dead City and Daryl Dixon upon us.
Daryl Dixon will arrive this summer, bringing Melissa McBride's Carol Peletier back into the fray. We'll have to wait a bit longer for Dead City season 2, but the good news is that AMC has released a new behind-the-scenes teaser, giving us our first look at it.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 is in production in new teaser
AMC has officially confirmed that the second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City is in production with a brand new behind-the-scenes teaser. The brief 20-second clip showcases the first look at Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan back on-set, while also giving us a glimpse of what to expect.
Maggie will once again be getting in on the action, as we see her battle a host of walkers (what's new, though? Let's be honest!), while Negan is staring ominously off into the distance. We have to wonder how he'll be settling into his new role as the leader of the Manhattan communities.
The clip also gives us our first look at the enemies of season 2, as we see Željko Ivanek back on set as season 1's big bad The Croat and Lisa Emery as The Dama - the apparent mastermind behind all of the hierarchy politics in New York City. They will no doubt prove to be a formidable pair for Maggie and Negan to contend with.
Speaking of Maggie and Negan, their working relationship went from bad to worse in season 1. Though Maggie had never forgiven Negan for what he did to Glenn, they had found a common ground by the end of the original Walking Dead series; in Dead City, however, that conflict naturally raised its head again as she struggled to trust the man who brutally killed her husband.
In the end, she willingly traded him to The Croat and The Dama to retrieve her son Hershel. However, in a twist of irony, she felt guilty over what went down, setting the stage for a second season where she will likely attempt to rescue him from his captivity; returning the favor for him rescuing Hershel.
While it's great that the show is in production, it's going to be some time before the six new episodes of The Walking Dead: Dead City make their way to the screen. As the teaser reminds us, it will premiere on AMC and AMC+ in 2025.
