Perhaps no film series within the Marvel Cinematic Universe has had as many highs and lows as the Thor franchise. While all four films have been successful at the box office, the audience response has significantly differed from movie to movie. But success speaks volumes, so even after the mixed response to the most recent installment, Thor: Love and Thunder, the character is expected to return for a fifth movie.

While Marvel Studios have yet to officially greenlight Thor 5, they essentially confirmed it when the fourth movie's post-credits scene set up another installment (along with the end credits literally telling us that "Thor will return"). Taika Waititi is not expected to return as director, which fans believe to be the result of Love and Thunder's divisive approach.

Rumors about the movie have been swirling since it became a possibility, and now the most recent of them tease a movie unlike any Thor adventure we've had before. And that's something all of us need right now.

Thor 5 rumors tease an epic, serious finale to the franchise

According to Marvel Insider HolyField News, the fifth Thor movie will be the last in the character's solo franchise. It will also revisit Valhalla (which played an important role in the previous movie) and as a result, Thor will come into possession of some new "extraordinary abilities". It's also expected to be a multiversal movie, earning its place among the MCU's Multiverse Saga by introducing both Beta Ray Bill and the Thor Corps through what has been described as "multiverse events".

They aren't the only one to state this, as a separate rumor reinforces the idea of it being a multiversal film, suggesting that it will include multiple versions of Asgard, while also adding that Hercules will play an important role in the movie. This is something that HolyField News also states in a separate earlier post, revealing that the character will be one of the film's primary villains but that there will be "a much bigger threat" too.

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of all of these movies is that they all suggest that Thor 5 will have a more serious, epic tone - which is something that fans of the character have been craving for a long time. As great as Thor: Ragnarok was, it essentially turned Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder into a Guardians of the Galaxy-like hero, relying on humor and casting aside his godly presence. With the franchise rumored to be bowing out with the fifth movie, it's time to remind us all who Thor truly is.

While Marvel Studios has yet to confirm any of this, these rumors do carry some weight for multiple reasons. We know that Thor 5 is likely happening at this point, so if it is the final installment in the saga, it will undoubtedly reference a number of characters that the franchise has overlooked up to this point and the multiverse would be a great way of introducing them. Moreover, after the post-credits scene of Thor: Love and Thunder introduced Brett Goldstein as Hercules, it's highly likely that he too will play a role in the next movie. And with all the talk of Valhalla, and an epic final outing, we couldn't think of a better way to bring it all to life than with a battle between him and Thor.
