The MCU's Thunderbolts might have just lost a MAJOR character

Thunderbolts is one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most exciting upcoming movies, but a new rumor suggests it's about to lose one of its stars.

Marvel Studios has a lot of movies on the horizon as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to evolve and grow in its fifth Phase. It hasn't exactly been smooth sailing for Phase 5, which has been hampered by underperformers and a critical failure, but excitement remains among fans, with Thunderbolts being among the most anticipated upcoming titles.

The movie will bring back plenty of familiar faces from various MCU projects over the years, as characters such as Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Red Guardian (David Harbour) will team up under the orders of Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

It's a star-studded cast, which also features Harrison Ford in the role of General Ross, taking over from the late William Hurt. However, a new rumor suggests that it might be about to lose one of its main cast members.

Steven Yeun rumored to have dropped out of Marvel's Thunderbolts

As reported by Comic Book Movie, Steven Yeun is rumored to have departed Thunderbolts. The rumor originated from the moderators of the r/DCULeaks Reddit page (who have been reliable with scoops in the past), with speculation now suggesting that the role of Sentry could be recast.

After Yeun's casting, there was a lot of discussion surrounding his mystery character, with Sentry being the likely option. It was subsequently confirmed that he would be playing Sentry when Robert Kirkman, who collaborated with Yeun on The Walking Dead and Invinicble, revealed it.

It's important to note that his rumored departure has not been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, so it's best to take this one with a pinch of salt. That being said, there are some signs that could point towards there being some truth in it. Insider Daniel Richtman recently reported on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Yeun's Sentry suit might be "the best superhero suit we've seen in the MCU". However, the day after that, Richtman simply posted a sad face, which fans are convinced backs up the possibility of the rumor being true.

This isn't the first time that Thunderbolts has been hit with exit rumors. Last year, it was rumored that Hannah John-Kamen would no longer be reprising her Ant-Man and the Wasp role as Ava Starr, a.k.a. Ghost, but that was seemingly untrue as the movie is expected to begin filming in March or April this year with no official reports about her apparent exit.

With that in mind, it would be best to also take this report with a pinch of salt. I certainly hope it isn't true, because Yeun is a fantastic actor, with his performance as Glenn in The Walking Dead being one of my favorites of the past 15 years. It would be a shame if he didn't get his moment in the MCU, especially when there was so much excitement about it.
