When it comes to superhero movies, there are two major film studios responsible for most of the movies: Marvel and DC. Unfortunately, DC movies just haven't, overall, lived to the standard set by Marvel. With that said, some DC movies definitely don't get the love and recognition they should from fans and critics, and sometimes both.

After watching all 15 DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movies, including Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, we picked six underrated DC movies and shared why those movies deserve more praise.

Let's get the list started with one of my favorite DC movies of all time, Blue Beetle!

  • Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto
  • Cast: Xolo Maridueña, Adriana Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Max Trujillo, Susan Sarandon, George Lopez, and more
  • Where to Stream: MAX

For fans and critics, Blue Beetle is a fine movie! Those who saw the movie enjoyed it, which is basically all we can ask for. Ángel Manuel Soto delivered a solid superhero movie with a great story, incredible action sequences and effects, and terrific performances from a stacked cast. Xolo Maridueña is so good as Jaime Reyes, also known as Blue Beetle. Everyone who had seen him in Cobra Kai knew he was going to crush this role, and he did!

Blue Beetle is funny. It has a lot of heart, too, and it stands for something, which is not always the case with the DC movies. Most importantly, this film tells an interesting yet predictable story. Again, we don't always get that with DC movies. Even the recent Marvel movies have been a little lacking in the story department.

The problem with Blue Beetle, and what makes this movie underrated to me, is that very few people actually watched this movie in theaters. It's been reported that Blue Beetle barely made back its production budget and probably didn't make back its production budget plus marketing budget. There are many reasons for that, but the movie's quality is not one of them.

This is a really good movie, and it's just a shame that people didn't watch it. I was really hoping we'd see Jaime Reyes and Blue Beetle's story continue in the new DC Universe.

Up next is Black Adam!
