It's safe to say that fans, critics, and DC had high hopes with Black Adam heading into its premiere in October 2022. DC spent more than $250 million on the movie which eventually would bring in about $400 million at the global box office. While I don't think this movie needed to be a $250 million movie, it's far from the worst of the DCU.

Dwayne Johnson is really good as Teth-Adam, also known as Black Adam. It's the story, in my opinion, that lets this movie down. Where Blue Beetle was elevated because of its story, Black Adam needed to make some better choices with story structure, pacing, and scale. It's simply a huge movie with lots of incredible effects, but it feels a bit hollow at times.

It's hard to make movies like this and create a cinematic masterpiece. Overall, Black Adam is entertaining. It's much darker than what we're used to, even in the DCEU, and it's almost refreshing in that respect. It definitely deserved a little bit more love during its moment in the spotlight, but that time has come and gone.

Black Adam will not be continuing in James Gunna and Peter Safran's version of the DC Universe. Johnson announced the news that he would not be returning as Black Adam in the future in 2023.
