WandaVision season 2 might not be happening but the show lives on in these 4 spinoffs
By Mark Lynch
Sometimes a change in scheduling is a good thing. In this case, there’s WandaVision. The popular Disney Plus show was supposed to debut after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Due to the 2020 pandemic and other delays, the Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany-led series was the first Marvel Studios original show to stream on Disney Plus.
WandaVision's success and rave reviews gave people faith in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe shows, starting Phase Four off on such a strong note that it brought the studio its first-ever Emmy nominations. That's how much of an impact the show made.
Unfortunately, there won’t be a second season. While fans spent a long time hoping that it would return for another outing, the show was designed to be a miniseries, showcasing Wanda's grief over the loss of her beloved Vision and her eventual transformation into the Scarlet Witch.
Don’t fret, though. There’s good news coming. The characters we met in WandaVision have had their stories continued in other projects. These four spinoffs will keep you up to date with the characters and their ongoing stories.
Agatha All Along
After a long wait (and a bunch of title changes), Agatha All Along has a release date. On September 18, 2024, Disney Plus will release the show with a two-episode premiere. The show will follow the events of WandaVision and likely her past before Agatha contributed to Wanda's time in Westview.
Agatha All Along will star Kathryn Hahn (Agatha Harkness) and feature stars actors Aubrey Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, Patti LuPone, Debra Jo Rupp, and Joe Locke. While Kathryn Hahn is the only character with a defined character on IMDb, the other performers named will add great acting and comedy relief to the project.
Vision Quest
There isn’t a lot to go on with Vision Quest. We do know the recently created White Vision is the star character. After his encounter with the conjured Vision in the WandaVision finale, White Vision will have a lot to ponder.
Producer Terry Matalas (Star Trek: Picard) is Vison Quest’s showrunner. He has experience with shows involving action, adventure, and science. That knowledge will help Vision Quest in ways that make Star Trek shows popular.
A report from Daniel RPK says that WandaVision should begin filming this fall as they continue to cast the project. Among those castings could be Wanda’s son, Tommy (Speed in Marvel Comics). He may have disappeared after Westview returned to normal, but Tommy will likely return and be older. That means his twin brother Billy (Wiccan) will be as well.
The next two aren't exactly spinoffs, but they're both projects where you can learn what happened to other characters from WandaVision.
Doctor Strange 2
Wanda does everything she can to get her children back and ends up killing a lot of people in the process. Some say she’s a villain, others believe she’s a grieving mother. I say both things can be true.
No matter what side you fall on, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ends with Wanda saving the day and protecting the Multiverse. However, it's unclear if she'll be back.
The Marvels
Lastly, we come to The Marvels. After WandaVision, Monica Rambeau’s next move was up in the air. We learn that she accomplishes her goal of going into space in more ways than she could have imagined.
Monica doesn’t just explore the solar system, she ends up in another reality. What Earth she’s on and what’s next remains to be seen. Hopefully, it won't be long before we see Teyonah Parris
suit up as Monica Rambeau again. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out when that is.
