Why Hugh Jackman really said “yes” to Deadpool and Wolverine

As we're finally getting this incredible duo together on the big screen, we all have Hugh Jackman to thank for it happening.

Remember when Logan hit theaters and we all collectively rejoiced over seeing Hugh Jackman play Wolverine but bummed out it'd be his last movie as our favorite grumpy X-Men?

Hugh Jackman tossed us all a massive curveball by strapping on those iconic Wolverine claws once more for the explosively anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine movie, and guess what? He was apparently so into playing Wolverine one more time that he dove headfirst into this without even giving his agent a heads-up.

Now, let’s rewind a bit. Logan was supposed to be Hugh's mic drop moment as Wolverine. It was emotional, gritty, and had that perfect superhero sunset goodbye. But when Ryan Reynolds (aka Mr. Deadpool himself) pitches you an idea, it’s hard to just walk away, especially considering Jackman had a change of heart after watching the first Deadpool movie. Imagine Hugh, just cruising down the street, probably jamming to some tunes, when bam, inspiration strikes. According to an exclusive interview with Fandango, the thought of Deadpool and Wolverine slashing through bad guys together was too good to pass up, and he "just knew" he had to do it.

You can watch the interview below:

Hugh’s reaction? Pure impulse! He didn’t call his agent, didn’t schedule a meeting. Nope, he just rang up Ryan and said, "Let’s do it." Just like that, folks. If that’s not the bro-iest, most superhero way to make a decision, I don’t know what is.

But here’s the juicy part: Marvel's big boss, Kevin Feige, wasn’t all aboard at first. He's like, "Hugh, buddy, you nailed the ending with Logan. Let’s not mess with perfection." Fair point, right? But then, something changed. Maybe it was the allure of seeing these two fan-favorites, Deadpool’s snark and Wolverine’s growl, together at last that swayed him. So, now Feige’s singing a different tune, excited about not just bringing Wolverine back, but bringing him back in a way that doesn’t mess with the Logan legacy.

This team-up isn't just about reviving a character - it’s about creating something fans have been dreaming of. Since Deadpool first hit the screens, the chatter about these two tearing it up together has been non-stop. And now, it’s becoming a reality. The blend of Deadpool's irreverent humor with Wolverine’s gruff, no-nonsense attitude? That's gold, pure cinematic gold!

So, here we are, on the brink of what could be the most epic buddy film in the Marvel universe. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, bringing on the banter and the brawls. Get ready, because if the excitement from the fans - and Hugh’s spontaneous decision - are anything to go by, we’re in for one heck of a wild ride.

Marvel, take my money already, will ya? This won't be just a movie; it'll be the superhero reunion we thought we needed and now can’t wait to see.

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit theaters on July 26th.
