2. The Last Outlaw (2004 - 2020)

When The Undertaker returned as The Deadman in 2004, he brought the character into the modern day. Generally, he still dressed like his American Badass persona, with the black vest and pants, but he brought back the black hair, the hat, the coat, and the eyeliner. The Undertaker of old had returned.

Looking back on The Phenom's career, this truly was the supreme version of the character. He had all the powers of the darkness, all the intimidating mind games, and all the phenomenal entrances, but he was also a relentless brawler that would stop at nothing to win the matches he was involved in and entertain audiences around the world. Like his Lord of Darkness personality, the perfect balance between mortal and immortal had been found, making him a much more compelling character capable of producing some absolutely stunning matches.

That's one of the reasons that this version of The Undertaker ranks so highly, because Mark Calaway was never physically stronger than he was during the early years of this persona and that allowed him to be as unstoppable as ever in the ring. He was in the best shape of his career in 2007 and that kickstarted a trend of show-stopping matches for The Phenom, which proved that he was right to relax his gimmick all those years ago.

From a character standpoint, too, the "defending The Streak" years made The Undertaker look more invincible than ever, as he had barn-burners with Batista, Edge, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and CM Punk, defeating all of them and extending the streak to 21-0 before its end. This version of the character truly was a supreme undead fighting machine.
