Holy superhero comebacks, X-fans.

Let’s get right to it and dive into the explosive season finale of X-Men '97, "Tolerance is Extinction Part 3," where the stakes were higher than they've been before.

No time to waste here, so SPOILER WARNING - READ THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!

So, our tale picks up in the thick of chaos. Remember how Magneto (the master of magnetic mayhem, the Daddy of Magnetism) plunged the world into a blackout? Yup, he was really not playing games this time. It was up to our favorite mutants, the X-Men, to stop him from turning Earth into his own personal fridge magnet collection.

The previous episode had us all waiting at the edge of our seats. First, we saw how Wolverine, our gruff and tough hero, faced a shocking twist when Magneto, feeling a little extra, ripped the adamantium right out of Logan's bones. Ouch! This iconic moment, straight out of the comic books, had all of us gasping. Wolverine spent most of this season finale episode in recovery mode, healing from his painful makeover, while the X-Men scrambled to handle the rest of the crisis.

Also worth mentioning - all the cameos in this episode were incredible. Daredevil, Iron Man, Captain America... SO many that I'll definitely have to go back and watch the episode once more to make sure I caught everyone,

And then there's the big bad of the season, Bastion. This guy had been pulling strings behind the scenes like a puppet master at a marionette show. His grand plan? The spectacular and horrible showdown on Genosha, which led to some serious chaos and disruption in the mutant world. But, with Professor Xavier back and the X-Men united, they delivered a super-smackdown, putting an end to Bastion and his sinister ally, Mister Sinister. Teamwork makes the dream work.

Asteroid M is destroyed, thanks in part to missiles being launched as part of the Magneto Protocols, a secret strategy in case Magneto were to get too powerful and humans had to protect themselves against him. But, as the asteroid starts to freefall towards Earth, Magneto's psyche is restored and he's able to push the asteroid away from Earth... but not before it completely zaps out of existence, taking Rogue, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Beast, Jubilee, Sunspot, Wolverine, Morph Nightcrawler, Professor X, and Magneto with it. Turns out, they've been sent on a time-traveling journey, with Jean and Scott being launched over a thousand years into the future and the rest being sent to ancient Egypt, as they ran into En Sabah Nur - you know, baby Apocalypse (not really a baby, but we saw him being attacked by what I can speculate to be the Pharaoh's guards).

And that's where the episode ends.

The real jaw-dropper came in the post-credits scene (because what’s a superhero show without one, right?). We're whisked back to the aftermath in Genosha, where we spot Apocalypse picking up Gambit’s charred playing card. Cue the villainous smirk and boom - It could very well be that our charming Cajun, Gambit, might just be coming back... but imagine if he does so as one of Apocalypse's Four Horsemen. Can you say cliffhanger?

- Camila Domingues | Bam Smack Pow. X-Men '97 season 1 finale, "Tolerance is Extinction, Part 3". Finale. A+. A nail-biting and overall perfectly executed finale for the first season, which sets up even more mutant mayhem for season 2.

Throughout this finale, the themes of unity and resilience shine bright. Despite the heavy losses and heartaches, our heroes stood strong, ready to fight another day for peace and acceptance in a world that often fears them. It's the X-Men promise: to protect a world that fears and hates them, and boy, do they deliver!

So, what's next for our mutants? Season 2 promises more time-traveling adventures, more daring rescues, and yes, more of our beloved Wolverine (hopefully with all his metal intact next time). The battle for tolerance may have won a victory, but the war continues.
