Prime Video announces release schedule for acclaimed sci-fi show's return

Prime Video’s Invincible keeps its three-episode premiere tradition going, and it’s a good thing since things are about to get crazy for Mark Grayson.

Prime Video has continuously made a point of trying new things when its shows are released (or return for new seasons). We saw this when Fallout season 2 changed its premiere times on three occasions in eight episodes, and we don't often see this from other streaming services. HBO Max, for example, only did this when its shows were up against a major event like the Super Bowl (which we saw with The Last of Us and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) or when the numbers could improve thanks to a holiday (like with It: Welcome to Derry on Halloween).

One of the experiments that has worked for Prime Video is the three-episode release. This lets viewers binge a little (which people love) while also enjoying a lengthy, weekly run. It also means that the creative team no longer have to face the pressure of putting too much in one episode to keep people intrigued. Instead, they can take their time and spread the opening act of a season out across three episodes. With a show like Invincible, that’s crucial. And that's why it's great to learn that it will have another three-episode premiere for its upcoming fourth season.

Prime Video confirms Invincible season 4 release schedule

Season 4 of Invincible will debut on March 18, 2026, the first three episodes all releasing at once. After that, it will revert to a weekly release format, premiering one new episode per week, with the season 4 finale set to stream on April 22.

If you’re a fan of the source material, you know why this particular premiere needs the three-episode treatment. Even if you’re not up on the comics, the last thing that Mark Grayson, Invincible himself, says about killing people in the season 3 finale will come into effect early. Plus, there's the trailer for season 4, which should give you a hint. However, even that isn’t enough.

*** Possible SPOILERS for Invincible season 4 ahead. ***

Among the characters that will be introduced this year are Dinosaurus and Grand Regent Thragg. Dinosaurus will be one of the most influential people in Mark’s life from the moment he meets him. Sadly, it won’t have a positive impact on Mark and will lead to an untold number of deaths. As for Thragg, the uninformed will learn that he’s one of the scariest beings in all of comics. If you thought Conquest, Omni-Man, and Anissa were a force of nature, then Thragg is an extinction-level event.

Both characters need time to be shown, even though their first appearances will probably be brief. Nevertheless, the impact they’ll have on the storyline is key to Mark's downfall and eventual growth. But even they aren’t going to be the most important part of the first three episodes.

Season 4 seems to adapt volume 13 (of 25) of Robert Kirkman's Invincible comic book series - the appropriately titled "Growing Pains". If that remains true, then Nolan (Omni-Man) and Allen will start searching for things to stop the Viltrumite empire. It will lead them on a dangerous journey that will almost get them killed a couple of times. But, in the end, they’ll find the things needed to fight in a turning point of the series: The Viltrumite War. However, that part of the story won’t likely happen until season 5.
